This is the first word all of my animals learn and anything having to do with people food is off limits. My cat is 21 years old and still runs around the house like a kitten but never on the counter or kitchen table. She is civilized and knows it is disgusting. Nice to be able to walk away from dinner table to answer phone or whatever and know the food will not be touched. (I used to raise Great Danes and it was imperative since their heads were above table level when they were standing.)

When I had a cat, No. But my cousin is like cat lady with...22 cats? yeah, too much, and she lets them jump up on her bench, table and even kisses them after they lick their a$$. -Gag-..but that's her. :)

But I don't eat anything prepared from a home where people don't have boundaries with their pets. I think a cat on a counter is disgusting (in MY humble opinion).

They are VERY dirty creatures...that would be nasty.
House cats not indiginous to America and very invasive they kill all kinds of native animals where ever they are brought.....and you legally can not even own a cat!
I guess I am more of a outside dog/horse person:)

I dont really allow him, he just jumps up on the counter by the sink, and I have to turn on the water because he likes to drink from the faucet and watch the water drip. Then he jumps down and finds a place to sleep. He is a big old tom cat, and does pretty much what he wants. I saw him scare a huge dog away from the fence one day because he was barking at my dog.

Just the word 'no' worked fine with my dogs, but many cats I've had to reinforce that 'no' with a squirt of water at the same time as the word. Water pistol or spray bottle doesn't harm them at all and they learn very quickly. ;) I had an excessively naughty cat when Midnight was a kitten and she learned just from watching him get squirted with a spray bottle of water. Once Michel jumped from a the second story when he a kitty. We posted flyers & hoped for the best. Neighbors found him playing in traffic. It was snowing & he was batting at the traffic light halos on his back during rush hour! They bought him food & a litter box. Then they saw a flyers & called. When we picked him up the lady said, "Your cat has the run of the house doesn't he?" I asked why she asked. She said he jumped on the counter & the top of the fridge. Then he chased the Rottweiller into the bedroom. Not only would Michel not let the dog out of the bedroom he also played with the poor dog's toys.

He was almost nice years old when he passed away. If the vet could have given me the shot too I would be grateful.

Beautiful boy! Awww! I'm so moony-eyed over this kitty. You were lucky you got him back that day. :) And he was lucky to have had an owner that would let him get away with murder by the sounds of it. ;)
