If you found yourself in a precarious situation surrounded by five club-wielding Black Panthers, and they asked you if you were voting for Barack Obama, would you tell them no and take an ass-whipping, or would you tell them a "white" lie?

Simmering Frog 2012/10/07 02:07:21YES, I'd tell them no and take an ass-whuppen [tell us why].

make sure the word gets out that we MUST back Barack.
In response to this controversy, the New Black Panther Party has suspended its Philadelphia chapter, and repudiated Minister King Shabazz in a posting at its website. The party has stated that Shabazz made "an honest error" by bringing a billy club to the polling station, and that because of his doing so he had been suspended from the New Black Panther Party until January 2010.
While it is clear that this was not part of the NBPP's plan, this is also a clear cut case of voter intimidation perpetrated solely by Minister King Shabazz. Clearly, there was some political involvement that should not have been present. He should have stood trial for the crimes.
And the only communist ever elected is still in office.
But... I would probably (in this alternative reality) tell them I plan on voting for Obama. Much as I hate to give in to thugs, it seems prudent to tell them what they want to know. Goodness knows I've said 'yes, sir' to a fair number of cops with bugs up their butts -- because I knew full well they could make my life miserable. How is this different -- except for the fact that it's fictional and the fact that they'd probably still beat me up anyways.
Also, that's bullies in school, not bullies in real life. An organization like the Black Panthers would not give up because one or two of them went down. They'd be that much angrier and more determined to kick the crap out of you. With them surrounding you without gaining notice, it's reasonable to assume all the shouting in the world wouldn't save you. Even if you did get the attention of someone and get them to call the police, the "bullies" wouldn't leave until they actually heard the sirens, giving them plenty of time to beat you up. And, unless you know some kind of high-end self defense, 5 on 1 always has the advantage and will beat you up.
Would you say you would vote for Obama in order to avoid being beaten up?
You don't have to actually vote for Obama, you would simply be telling them that to avoid being beaten up. You could then immediately call the police yourself and get them arrested. Afterward, you could tell them the truth, whatever it happens to be.
This is a hypothetical question involving logic over pride. Logically, you tell them whatever they want to hear in order to avoid needless violence. Pridefully, you tell them the truth, whether it gets you beaten up or not. It doesn't matter who the people are or what the problem is. The general question is the same.
Would you tell a group of people whatever they wanted to hear to avoid a beating, or would you tell them the truth, even if it means you take some punishment?
Would you follow logic or pride?
There's a reason most religions place pride as being a sin. More often than not, it gets you into trouble.
Second, I'd be honest: "Nope, I'm not voting for Obama, but I'm not voting for Romney either. I think they both suck."
