I know EXACTLY when I would go back to and what I would change.

I would go back to my Junior year in High School. I would summon the courage to tell the beautiful blonde who was in class with me and was my lab partner in chemistry (this was an all boys school that had just started the process of merging with the 2 all girls schools in town) that I liked her.

I was actually madly in love with her, but suffered from such a terrible self image that I was certain she would say no to me. I never said anything at all about how I felt towards her. So deep was my self deception and self loathing, that when she was always hanging out with the small group of guys who were my friends, I convinced myself that she was dating one of them.

40 years later, we connect through Classmates.com and I discover how completely wrong I was about all of that. She was madly in love with me too. She hung around my group of friends to be closer to me. She wanted me to make the first move. Given what I learned about her life since then, and what I know about my own, I think we both would have been MUCH happier being together than how we went through life with others.

I know we can't change the past, but if I could, this would be what I would change.

If I could go back and change something, I'd change the fact that I didn't learn how to ride a bike til I was TEN! (I lived under a rock, which I then roller bladed over.) I don't regret taking up roller blading steada bicycling but, I wish I would have learned sooner..
