If you ate an apple would you still possess it?

I heard a legal argument recently. My question is not that argument. Trust me on that.

Say that, holding an apple in your hand would be possession of the apple. If you ate the apple, would you still possess it?

You wouldn't possess it in its "apple-like" form. Once you chew & digest a piece of food, you're mixing your saliva and other digestive chemicals with it, thereby changing its objective properties. Now obviously I don't go through a regular day thinking this way, but this is the kind of argument I would make from a legal standpoint.

    Yes.

In my gut, I'd still possess it.

    No.

It would then be considered consumed and not in your possession.

No, once you chew the apple it become apple sauce. The apple is no longer an apple but the chemical components of that apple.

You never did possess it in the first place. It hung out with you for a short while and then you flushed it.

I'd have to say no, since once you eat the apple it's no longer an apple. The components that made up the apple are in your system, but even if you were able to extract every molecule that came from the apple and put them together, you would not be able to recreate the original apple.

The apple in question is no longer an apple, it's breaking down becoming a part (in parts) of your body.
It is not in your possession anymore, it has become a part of you.
Your body and your possessions are two different things.

For ever. You have the nutrientance from that particular apple and therefore always possess it. No one else can at that point. :)

On the one hand, you could argue that since it is no longer an apple (it is now apple pulp) you aren't in posession of an apple. However, if you swallowed packets of drugs to hide them from the police, and they found them, you would be charged with posession. However in that case the drugs did not take a different form, so I guess I should have said "no" to the apple question.

Yes, you would still retain the core so in essence yes you would still technically have the apple. Maybe!

Once the apple is eaten, it ceases to be an apple.

I would say yes. It's just inside you instead of outside of your body. Until it passes through as all food does, you possess it.

Because no one else would be able to possess it instead. But, I feel that is just our perception of the things around us. In reality, everything from the earth and on the earth is possessed by the earth. At some point, EVERYTHING goes back into the cycle.

For a few hours, I presume. Is there a deeper point to this? Your reason for asking the question is far more interesting than the question itself.

Until the item has left you digestive tract you are still in possession. When a person swallows a condom filled with cocaine they get a drug possession charge.
