If violence suddenly broke out across the nation would you want conservatives or liberals standing with you?

To you maybe but not to me. I'd much rather die with them on my feet fighting for something I believe in than live on my knees pretending to be something I'm not.

I don't think we would worry about pretending to be anything, and surviving would be what we believed in. I can only hope that we would all be helping each other, whether liberal or conservative. I would help anyone I could.

Thank you! It shouldn't be about divide and conquer or us vs. them. We should all have the mindset that we're our brothers' and sisters' keepers.

I will probably seem silly to some posters for saying what I am going to say next. But I will say it anyway! :D

I once was young (like you), now I am old! (I know that line is not original!) If we were to have to protect ourselves from our own gov., I would like to organize an "old people's" force to travel at the front line of trouble. Since we created this mess, it only seems right.

I even have days that I say, "Let the games begin!" (not original either! LOL)

Are you referring to the issue of voters being required to show identification when voting? I don't consider that to be "making it more difficult" to vote. I consider it stupid that anyone would be allowed to vote without identification. (That is tantamount to allowing a person to access my bank account without a proper ID.) It only takes ONE fraudulent vote to cancel (steal) my ONE vote if my vote is in opposition.

As for "gun control," it is too late for America to think that crime would be reduced signficantly by that. Too much technology is now available to individuals to stop the manufacturing of guns on a private basis. The criminals would contine to have their guns. The law-abiding citizen would be the one at risk for they would not have protection from the criminals.

Not everyone has the wherewithal to get a driver's license or to get a vehicle? Remember Hurricane Katrina when those folks were stranded in New Orleans because they couldn't get out?
  • mary E Heisenberg 2012/08/05 16:47:34
    mary E
I didn't say all should be able to afford a vehicle! I am discussing ID cards. I don't think the lack of a ID card prevented anyone from leaving New Orleans. Their Mayor's poor decision-making skills did that. And I expect that "voting rights" was very far from those unfortunates' minds at that time.

I volunteer two days a week in a free food pantry that also offers services for One-Stop and government help. We offer free transportation for those who need ID's, and there is no cost to them at all. It does take some effort on their part to gather needed info, but no cash! I am certain there are other places that offer these services.

It was because not everyone had a vehicle to get out. The GOP is trying to pull this stunt because they don't want any minorities voting, and they're afraid the Tea Party will lose their thunder. They know it's a whitewash.
  • mary E Heisenberg 2012/08/09 08:49:08

I believe there were busses available in New O. that could have carried a great many people out had the mayor commissioned them.

The Democrats aren't novices to crying "voting fraud," as you must know. So when a way is offered to remedy voter fraud to some extent they boohoo about that.

FL has come under fire for allowing voter fraud. Now that they are working on changing that reputation, they are accused of suppression of voter rights.
  • Heisenberg mary E 2012/08/09 17:13:09
    Heisenberg
Oh give me a break! Do you really honestly believe there were enough buses to evacuate an entire city of poor people? My God, you really are clueless. The GOP is doing all this because there's a ni**er in the White House, and they all want to ensure those colored people don't get out and vote for him. That's what this is all about, and you know it.
  • mary E Heisenberg 2012/08/10 01:02:07
    mary E
And you must surely know that a "great many" people didn't mean all the people of a city the size of New O!

But, it would have been enough to reduce the sheltering situation and the misbehavior and suffering of the ones who stayed.

Please don't try to instigate an arguement concerning Repubs and Dems. I consider the Repubs about an iota above the Dems. They are all rotten. The politicians that is. Any person who believes Washington is on the people's side is the one that is clueless.

Your tendency to think in absolutes, present issues in sweeping generalities, and consider only worst-case scenarios make it a bit difficult to communicate with you.

I consider the right to vote and the correct procedure to vote an issue of major importance. I want every American who votes to value and honor the voting process. Those who do not understand the seriousness of voting enough to be willing to study the issues a bit and be prepared to show they are who they say they are shouldn't be voting anyway. It isn't that dificult to study a bit and to obtain an ID. In our little one-horse town we take a van of people every one or two months (depending on the numbers) to obtain identification.

It is when you don't have a vehicle and you live 10 miles from the nearest post office or vehicle registration office. Yes, it is that difficult. The only reason this has all be brought up is because the GOP is running scared due to minority voters. They want to keep their white privilege.

I'm a liberal, and I didn't freak when I was at war. I've seen the ugly side of life. I'm an Iraq War veteran. Most of you conservatives would freak out too if it was your children over there on the front lines. We liberals know war isn't the answer to everything because we have the cognitive ability to think outside the box rather than blindly follow the shepherd. Try me!

You're welcome. I have Asperger's Syndrome, and I still served in the military keeping my condition a secret for three years praying nobody would find out. I lived a double life doing my job to the best of my duty worrying day in and day out that something bad might happen to me. My duty to the service if there was ever any is done. You don't have to apologize for his behavior. At the end of the day, these are nothing more to me than words on a screen.

    Found it. I'm back.

This thing has stuck in my craw and I have concern for you and your health. That concern is that you do not become dependant on this thing called obamacare. It is not sustainable. When you consider the national debt, social security and medicare/medicade the whole mess is sbout to blow up in our faces.

I too have a medical condition that makes me uninsurable. Forcing companies to insure pre-existing conditions is not insurance it is welfare and will not work. I was able, for a time, to get in a high risk pool at $1,500.00 a month when I lived in a state that had a high risk option. That, coupled with another $1,500.00 a month in medication put a dent in finances. When I moved ... nothing. It was the old hip pocket, but that is life and the cards I was dealt.

I would suggest you start the VA process. Depending on where you live it can be good ... here it is a mess and even though I jumped through the hoops I avoid it like the plague, preferring to use my own doctors.

At any rate, good luck and pile up the options ... as many non-government as possible.

The whole point about Obamacare is to make healthcare affordable for everyone and make them nondependent on Medicare while the debt goes down. The GOP tried to butcher it all because the insurance companies have too many lobbyists.

Since when does the "point" have anything to do with the outcome? And how come so many insurance companies are in bed with the crats on the thing. There are so many abominations in thse 2,700 (approx.) pages it made my head swim. Calling it the affordable care act is the biggest joke of all.
