Sadly, if you need to shoot, you simply have to kill. Otherwise, he can sue or make up some story that'll really complicates things.
if dead, he has no story to tell, just yours. Oh, and make sure you tell the police you were afraid for your life.
If someone broke into your house and you had a gun, would you shoot to kill or just shoot to maim?

If somebody breaks into my house, i am not giving that asswipe any chance at all to hurt my family.
I may feel a little remorse afterwards, maybe not, but remorse for killing a guy that could have been trying to kill me or my family would be nothing compared to the anguish i would feel if something happened to my baby siblings or my parents.
If you don't live in my home and aren't invited, probably better to stay out!
I already wrote kill.
Here's an interesting article;
The state of NH is pro concealed carry but not every town has pro gun police... check this out.
http://www.foxnews.com/us/201...
I attached a link to an article that explained or showed that even though NH is pro gun and pro carry, not all town police officers agree. in that article, they arrested the homeowner for discharging his pistol to get a thief's attention. (shot into the ground) and they arrested him and are contemplating charging him with a felony... doesn't make sense... that was pretty dumb on the part of the Farmington police. Hence the comment "and in your town, meaning good to learn how your town thinks about guns."
