If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes?

We did not evolve from any of the modern primate species we merely share a common ancestry and the various species split off evolving to what we now have. Only people who haven't actually studied evolution think we evolved from the current species.

AN if we evolved from apes. Why aren't we as strong as them. Wouldn't we be a more advanced ape with all that strength.............think about it. Because we did not evolve from APES.........

People didn't evolve from apes but they are closely related to apes. Some more than others.
Only religious people think that is what evolution means.

According to the theory of evolution humans evolved from apes. They did not replace them. Many times a new species will split off or diverge from another. Humans may have evolved from a particular type of ape and at one time there were several species of apes. Birds evolved from dinosaurs and lived concurrent with them for millions of years before dinosaurs died off.

Humanity evolved from one branch of the Ape family that had 'the right stuff' as it were, long ago from a common central ancestor that later gave rise to apes, monkeys, etc...

probably because apes and humans evolved from one kind of creature. Evolution is not always in our favor. . . . which created apes, monkeys, etc.

    1. We share a common ancestor. We did not evolve from the modern ape.
    2. For the same reason that we have little cats and big tigers. Evolution causes different species to branch off. Some branches die off. Others continue. So it's entirely possible for the "mother" species to continue unchanged when a population secluded somewhere evolves and adapts to changes in it's local area.

OBJECTION! The switch from apes to humans was a DEvolution, not an evolution.

But anyway, as so many other people have pointed out here, humans didn't evolve from apes directly - Darwin's evolution theory simply claims they both have an ancestral species, and that that species split off into two more to take their environments into account.

Think about Great Britain, for example. Britain formed colonies in America, and then those colonies left Britain in the late 1700s to form the United States. When that happened, Britain didn't vanish into thin air - instead, it stayed behind in England while the U.S. grew and evolved into what it is today.

It's the same way with apes and humans. The early ancestral species met two different environments, and split off into apes and humans to survive in both. The apes are fit for their environment, and we humans are fit for ours.

I'm pretty sure that "Ape" is a larger classification of similar creatures -- orangutans, gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos, and humans.

LOL,No surprise there. The only respected, yet questionable discovery was done by the Peabody Museum at Yale University. It concluded lemurs contained a gene" that possibly" could be related to the missing link.Other than that highly suspect study nothing of substance is remotely believable.Try and keep up little one

Our ansestor was possibly lemur like but not lemurs. Holding on to one study is idiotic. Also there is mountains of evidence linking homosepians to the branch of apes. Bones, DNA, and observations all point to the links. Sadly some people can't open their mind to the evidence and belive old books written by men that had limited resources and limited knowledge to how the world works.

According to the evolutionary theory, it's because those apes, that are still apes, did not need to evolve into a higher form, nor need to do so currently. If they do evolve, we won't be seeing it anytime soon, since it takes quite a bit of time to notice any change.
