How about some civility with those of whom you disagree. You're displaying a "holier than thou" attitude with this very question. None of these answers fit a Christian who is a good person and respects the beliefs of others. Although we certainly have those who think that they're better than everyone else, this is hardly unique to Christianity. Why all of the hostility? Why stereotype?

Sounds straight from the book of Acts. Very good answer. The idea we should be tolerant of other religions is fully disputed in the book of Acts. Peter repeatedly said, up until Jesus came to earth, God did let other nations do as they see fit, including worshipping other gods, but still leaving them with evidence of himself. However, that changed when Jesus came to earth and now the Apostles and Paul convinced even other nations(those who worshipped the Greek gods) that there is only one God and He came to save everyone. They turned the entire Province of Asia upside down. I think we would be taking a step backwards to now say we need to be tolerant of other Gods. Well actually in my opinion it is not about tolerance or intolerance- its about communicating the truth of Jesus. That's our mission. Christians should not stay silent. But Peter and Paul's motive was clearly to ensure no soul was at risk of eternal death. I sadly don't get that message now days- it has become about Christian Rights- no where in the Bible was anything about "Christian Rights".

Jesus would choose enlightenment through science and knowledge over moronic ghost stories and fables, unless of course he is born and brainwashed into some mormon or "christian" cult family...

If "Jeshua" (hebrew name) saw what those wimpering psykophants did in his name(both muslim and christian) he would probably puke on them!

What I know of him he NEVER said "GO OUT AND ENSLAVE THE WORLD" He said "make disiples of the world" he meant that his message of peace and love to spread not the hate and genocidal behaviour that Christianity and Islam have caused around the world!
  • Diane Fenris 2011/11/13 18:22:58

Right. Christianity is about saving people from eternal death. It's not about spreading peace though- that's a misconception. It's about spreading truth, and sadly, the truth does cause chaos in the world due to fear, jealousy and the changes it would cause politically and economically. The bottom line though is saving souls from eternal death not about this world. All the changes that would occur in this world are secondary- ie stores that sell idols would lose their business for example.

Jesus was called a Jew because of His Jewish mother (a child is considered "Jewish" only if born by a Jewish mother). Obviously He did not have male/female sperm but was implanted in the womb since the Virgin Mary was a virgin. Who was the mother and father of Adam and Eve? My point is: male/female genes are needed to produce a child - except God.

How can anyone ask if Jesus would become a born again Christian? Christianity is because of Jesus Christ, but christianity was not around when He walked the earth. It was 50 days after He was crucified: The day of Pentecost.

I agree with fcombs when she said it "...borders on blasphemy.". Maybe bob is "looking for the light" and can't find it; hoping somebody will enlighten him. Like the Jews who killed many of the apostles and Jews turned Christians in those days.

You make no sense. Jesus was a Jewish reformer of the Jewish religion. ...son of God, maybe...the most renound prophet and teacher (rabbi), definitely.....which makes one wonder. In order to be a rabbi back then, you had to be married....and Jesus is referred to everywhere as being a rabbi....otherwise, he would not have been allowed to preach in the temple....so much for priestly chastity.

Yes, you are right that Jesus was a Jewish reformer and rabbi (with Mikah [with authority] which meant "teacher" BUT you are wrong that one had to be married. He was able to preach in the temple as a practicing “orthodox” Jew (in the first-century sense) not like it is today.

To have the authority of a rabbi, one need only give the names of those who ‘ordained’ him. In the case of Jesus, he makes it clear John the Baptist was one of those witnesses, and the story of Jesus’ baptism (from the gospel accounts taught by his disciples) indicate that God, himself, was also a witness.

All too often, a rabbi would add his own grain of wisdom to the true tradition, thereby clouding it. Instead of passing down the sacred deposit along with the true interpretations of that deposit, he would add his own private interpretation. In turn his disciples, like their teacher, would, after becoming rabbis, do the same thing.

When I die, I will ask Him about what you said having to be married. Then, I'll look down from heaven and yell you the answer...wherever you happen to be.
  • drdos1943 Vis Vires 2011/11/12 13:06:50

I just asked around. it seems that everyone of authority (Orthodox rabbi's and Bible scholars) immediately answered that they thought that a rabbi was supposed to be married back then. However, no one could substantiate their opinion with any concrete proof written in Jewish law....so a rabbi's having to be married may only have been a custom, even now.

It's funny you accuse him of blaspheme my- the exact thing Jesus was accused of by the Jews. I don't think he means to be disrespectful- I think he's just trying to get attention. He is definitely confused though. All he'd have to do is sit down for a day, read the entire book of John and Acts and his confusion would melt away.
  • Vis Vires Diane 2011/11/27 05:36:22
    Vis Vires
I wasn't accusing him of blaspheme, but "borders on..."

My answer was referring to the 'born again Christian" part. To say Jesus could be born again is the same as saying "Jesus died" and came back. Jesus NEVER died (like we do). Unlike humans who say "I am a born again Christian", is to say their belief was either never there to begin with, or was once there, left, then came back. When we die, we leave our body but the spirit remains. That is why one should pray and burn a candle for 40 days after one passes (like Jesus who left His body but walked the earth for 40 days.

We don't die either. We just leave our body. Comprehend?

Oh - oops - I missed the Jew one. Well, I still like the atheist one.

Jesus was a Jew. I think that Jesus would still be a Jew. I don't think that christianity has much of anything to do with anything Jesus envisioned, and I frankly think he would be pretty appalled at what has been done in his name.

Whoever wrote this has absolutely no clue what Christianity is. I chose one, but I don't agree with it. None of them are correct. When Jesus comes back (not reincarnated because he lives) he will return as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and every knee will bow to him. He will claim those who have believed in who he is and attempted to follow his instructions he gave us when he was here. You can find those, by the way, in the Holy Bible. Some of you are walking a thin line with some of these teetering right there on the old blasphemy line. According to the Bible there is only one sin that is unforgiveable, and that is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. To make a comment that Jesus Christ would indulge in pagan or Wicca ceremonies is walking a thin line, my friends. You'd best have a little healthy fear now than lose control of your body functions when the skies part and Jesus

I don't know how the judgment will be conducted other than what I have read in the Bible, and that is that the unrightous will be judged and sent to hell. Yep, I believe there's a hell. Jesus said, "I go to prepare a place for you." Note he said a "place." That's quite a literal statement. It didn't say I go to prepare "a peaceful state of mind" for you. There's always the yin and yang of things, and if the yin is a place called Heaven, then there must be a yang - that would be hell. It's the polar opposite of Heaven, and will be a literal place.

If it were possible for Jesus to be "reincarnated" as asked in this question, then he would most likely be living the life of a Jew going to synagogue, etc., but his death on the cross atoned for our sins, and he became the ultimate sacrifice doing away with the need for the daily sacrifices practiced in his time here on this earth. So, the question just makes no sense at all and shows someone's total ignorance of Christian concepts.

I genuinely enjoy taking part in questions asked on Sodahead, but this one is offensive to me. If you are not well versed in the subject, don't ask a question about it. And don't call me "holier than thou." I'm just like the rest of you - struggling along in this world, but I do have a pretty good understanding of my faith.

Though I did like the Atheist answer ^_^

Some might think he'd join the ranks of Christians (after-all, he does follow his own teachings) but there is still the problem of the Christians not following his teachings. There is also the problem of the entire bible, both halves, proclaiming nothing about Christians, only hebrews and jews. So, Jesus would still be a jew. No doubt about it.

This also makes God a jew... Which explains a lot. ;p

I wouldn't know. I believe Jesus would be disappointed with what has been done in his name, but I really doubt he would subscribe to atheism. Although he could possibly lean more toward the agnostic not wanting to play any of the World religions.
Bob, try to offer a little more respect to peoples beliefs when citing these questions. Peace!
