New Jersey, Massachusetts, Washington D.C. (okay, it's not a state but it's less valuable than California), Alaska, and Hawaii would be the ones I'd put up for sale. Massachusetts is the liberal state sell because we need California if only for Hollywood. New Jersey because of rude people and that aweful reality show Jersey Shore. Alaska for all practicality should be a part of Canada with how far north it is. Hawaii is not a part of the continental US so it should be considered at least.
You clearly understand little about economics, as do many of the other people here. California has the 8th largest economy in the world. Times are tough everywhere, but without California, the US would quickly lose world superpower status. What other state has such a high concentration of smart people? Where do you think that computer you are using came from? Sure it came from China, but the technology was invented in California. The most beautiful coastline in the entire country is in California. The best weather in the country? California. The area around Redwood City in the SF Bay area tied for the world's best climate with the Canary Islands and North Africa's Mediterranean Coast. Redwood trees? Most of those are in California. California is one of the greatest assets this country has, and it would be foolish to lose it. Even more foolish than the Russians selling off Alaska. I suspect most of the people say California because they wished they lived there.
Bravo for trying to save us. You didn't mention Death Valley, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Of course Hollywood and La La land. We are a leader in agriculture. I guess that is about it. Oh don't forget if we go so does the Original Disneyland.
You're definitely entitled to your opinion, and I appreciate the loyalty you exhibit to your state. However, I am also entitled to mine, and regardless how it may hurt your little feelings, it will not be changing. And either your reading comprehension is way below par for your age, or that sun has fried your brain... Did you understand the question the author asked? Here, let me reiterate, "...sell off one State to balance the books, which should it be?" Obviously, it would be FOR GAIN to the US.
I know my brother lives there it is a good state for some, but being next to the Golden Gate Bridge watching the tide come in is pretty majestic. I picked Texas because it is right behind California in economic production and as the question indicated it would asset wise do real well for relieving debt.
Well CA is in dire straights and just about bankrupt..so many businesses have re-located elsewhere...and so..looks like CA would be the most logical choice
Try your 'rationalization' on someone else.
Thank you and come again.
It would be worth it if those assclowns from the Jersey Shore went with it, and I never had to hear the name Snooki, ever again.
Of course, we'd be all better off if we simply sold Washington D.C. and kept California.
