A single bite is no reason to murder an animal. That's just completely ridiculous.

if your not talking about severe damage, i would be mad....possibly hit the dog...but unless it went after my kid and bit the face or somewhere else that would leave permanent damage and severe injury i dont see me killing it.

Yeah, in general, I'm an animal-lover; but if an animal harms me or my people, its life suddenly becomes worth less than a fly's - just like a human's does!

let me add... as the narrative went.. this is a stray dog, so there is no known owner to blame, except the irresponsible one that has abandoned it and any animal that attacks a human, needs to be destroyed (that is Biblical). I am not an animal hater by any stretch of the imagination, but human life is more valuable than any other

    If it was rabid, yes.
If my kid was poking it with a stick? No.
I rescued a dog who'd been homeless and abused by neighborhood kids. Rumor had it she was bred to be dog-fighting bait. It took a year for her to come out from under the LR chair unless it was food or bed time. She spent an entire year under there unless my Yorkie coaxed her out and I was out of sight. It's now been 5 years and she still won't let our feet touch her but she's come a long, long way. She shows no teeth if my foot touches her btw, just a hurt look.

If ANY animal so much as scratched one of my children, let alone BITE them fi they were in a helpless position and didn't do anything to provoke the dog; I would probably do more than 'take it's life.'
BUT! If it was doing it out of self-defense because my kids were doing something wrong to it, then I would have a completely different reaction. It also depends on the child's age.

If the dog continued attacking my child, definitely, without hesitation. But if it bit my child and ran away, and the wound wasn't life-threatening, I'd probably see the dog's actions as a defense mechanism and take my child to the hospital. I wouldn't let it happen again though.

There is a lack of details here, I don't discriminate based on species, if attacked, I defend. If my kid was dumb enough to provoke the animal, I would discipline the child and teach them more about animal behavior (we've already had lessons, on various kinds of animals).

all dogs have the capacity to be friendly with others when properly trained by the owner. a single bite is no reason to kill the dog though should be more than enough reason for a concerned parent to take the appropriate actions in first ensuring their child's safety and exchanging choice words with the dogs owner

Too many unanswered things here. I'd rather restrain the animal and keep it under observation to see if it's ill. Why did it bite, I'd want to know what my kid was doing. I'm not in favor of just willy nilly killing something.

I was recently bitten by a stray dog (he bit, twisted, and hung onto my calf for dear life), and I couldn't kick him off of me (as I was taught not to kick or otherwise harm a dog). I was very upset with his owners who let him roam loose in the neighborhood like he's king.

Agreed, love. I'm kind of embarrassed for some of my friends--like when my male liberal pals call Palin a whore rather than an idiot. It's very sad to me. Dogs so rarely attack unprovoked and the ease (and glee) with which some are poised to end a life is shocking.

That ran through my head, too. I mean, I'm a vegan but I don't judge others. I'm even strangely proud of people who hunt and use every bit of the animal. But to delight in the death of an animal is sick. And typical anti-social behavior.

I know you know this. :)

couldn't agree more.....there's a sickness in this world where people have no respect for animals, and can never see that they may have done something to provoke an animal. they just think that they are the smart ones because they are the humans.
