If a friend does not repay money he owes , do you consider that the same as stealing?

Not because he doesn't have the money to repay, but he just decides buying an Xbox is more important.

If the agreement was a loan and this jerk defaulted at your expense to buy an X-Box they were never your friend, write them off."Never a lender or borrower be"Benjamin Franklin.Sorry I know how tight money is and how hard it is to come by,take care of your own....

no not stealing..but next time when that person asks "i shall say if you gave me that back i would give it to you"...
if he dare to ask me again..of course
and i believe we shall have "trial version"..with our friends to distinguish if they repay or not..we have to try by few money at first time..if he/she repay ..we shall repeat it.if no then no ..we are not a bank !! right brother Yosyp?

If I loaned my bestie money, and she bought an xbox instead of paying me back... I would sneak into her house while she's gone and put my name on the high scores of all of her favorite games.... It totally freaks her out that I can break into her house... then we'd laugh about it...

I decided long ago not to get upset if a buddie who is really struggling does not pay me back. And that includes when he gets in better tidings. ehhh but I am lucky, all have paid me back. Some just took longer then others...lol

Forgive your buddie. You will live longer.

I"ll send both your names to the Vatican for Sainthood. :) Because when a friend hurts my family for a game, I can't be so forgiving.

LMAO HA there will be Church that will just explode when my name shows up!!! Trust me I am no Saint. I do understand your anger. I have loaned out money only to see the person spending money later like it was water. BUT sometimes just seeing me and that I am still friendly to them did get them to REMEMBER that ole loan.

Have you asked for the money back? What did he say?

yes, I reminded the person of his promise to repay before my bill was due, he,told me the Xbox was on sale and he couldn't let such a deal pass, now he is just avoiding me all together.

I gotta admit what he did was wrong. I can only hope sooner or later he does pay you back. But that friendship is over for sure.

That's all well and fine if you have money to give away, either to friend or family, but when you don't, but you try to help a friend get over a short term financial problems and instead of paying back they buy an xbox. that's not right and that is not what friends do

well, when I need the money for a bill and he promises to pay me back before that bill is due, I can't be as generous and kind as you are. That hurts my family, but lesson learned for me, not give friends loans with money I need myself. Especially if that friend thinks an xbox if more important than friendship

He knew I needed the money for a bill and promised to repay before that bill was due, that was the agreement before I gave him the loan.. that's my point, and by him not paying to buy an xbox hurts not only me but hurts my family. He was not the true friend I thought he was.

Props to you if you are still able to consider someone that would do this a friend, but I can't. Friendship goes both ways, its not all take and not give back IMHO

If you loaned them the money then it is not theft and hopefully you will be paid back some day. It was a selfish and shady thing to do. I was always told do not loan more than you are willing to lose. I have quite a few people who owe me money but I try to look at it this way, one day when I really am in need they owe me and will hopefully come through.

That, above everything, else is the reason that lending to a friend or family can often be considered a gift. Unfortunately far to many consider it so.

Welching on a debt is fraud, not theft--and then only if the tightwad/lowlife never intended to pay you back at the outset.

The good news: education you have to pay for is the kind which sticks. The more you have to pay, the more it sticks.
