If a company says it will bring jobs back home but they would have to charge 20% more for their products, would you pay?

why would they have to charge 20% more? What metrics were used to come up with this figure? If this increased their costs that much why would they move?

It is worth it. To keep Americans employed and support our country.

Especially manufactured goods. I don't support unions, but I care dearly about the American worker.

It depends on a bunch of different things: what the product is, if it's a tangible thing like paper (for example) and the quality is better than before it's a good possibility. Also, it depends on how much the company had previously reported as profits. I feel that while it's the companies right to try and capitalize on as much profits as morally possible, it's counter productive for them to pretend like jobs in the USA would be so costly when that company is already reporting BILLIONS in profits.

! only buy American and that is not easy to do. All of my clothes are made in America. My older clothes all are Union made and boy does it show.
Since so many companies had to outsource I would NOT pay them a penny. They didn't care about the USA at all but only cared about the bottom line for them selves. What I would like to see would be new people in America open a new Union business and then we could tell the SOB's to go to hell ! I am 65 and always raised on Union made clothes that were always made in America ! When I see the crap clothes from Walmart and Kmart I just want to cry. Quality is something that they just don't know.

I sure would. It wouldn't bother me a bit to pay a little more for a product knowing it was made here by Americans. That money would be put back into our economy and begin to work for us instead of against us. It is also too bad that corporations have become so damn greedy too and are now only interested in profits and making money for their shareholders. It used to be the business was most important, then the employees, and then the community in which the business resided. When these things were all local, everything was great. The communities thrived. The employees made a decent living and were happy. And the businesses made a lot of money. Sending work overseas has hurt all of these things except now corporations make a lot more money and profits are all they care about. The greed that President Reagan brought this country in the 1980s has all but destroyed our sense of community and replaced it with an "I have mine now I want more" mentality.

Not until/unless they show me they've cut their profit margin and top exec salaries. AND how many jobs they've created. Then I'll decide.

They only sent jobs overseas to keep costs down and profits up. So quit chasing the dollar and let me know YOU care about YOUR country. Then we'll talk.

That would be a lie. They would never let their profits get so low that they would 'have to' increase prices. The only way to do it is increase tariffs to the point that it's more expensive to outsource. But it depends how many jobs it creates and how much I want the product.

It's hypothetical but it cost more to make things in the US than in China, that's just a fact. if they did return home their profits would be less if they are paynig higher wages.

Yes it does, you have to pay them higher wages, sick pay, maternity leave, holiday pay, there are job security laws, taxes, etc. So you have to offset that.

Probably, at least. 20% is not really that much, when you look at the crap you waste your money on now. You might have less money for frappaccinos or Taco Bell, but in the end, you will be healthier for it anyway, so there is that.

Place import fees on products coming into the US to punish outsoursing corporations rather than rewarding them for their actions with the tax breaks and federal incentives that they now recieve. Use that money to reward domestic manufacturing. Thereby reducing the cost to the manufactuer and the comsumer on domesticly produced products. Problem solved.

Defiance of the principles of the open market haven't worked historically and won't in the future. American economic dominance will need to continue to be based on science, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

We just had a discussion in school. A famous company in the USA charges Thousands of dollars for a product they build here. But they charge a few hundred dollars for basically the same product from China or Japan. I cannot afford to buy that product but I want to support USA products.. But if you look at this way. We are putting millions, maybe near a billion into unemployment.Just build your product here, and put US back to work.Without your USA Charge.

What do I get for that 20%?

Simply charging more for products made in the US is not the answer. Building a better product and then asking me to pay more for it could be the answer.

I guess I'm asking would you pay more to create jobs in your own country, For example, if Apple products were made in USA instead of China would you be willing to pay the extra 20% for that ipod, same product, same quality, only difference made in The USA

Would I pay 20% more for an ipod - I highly doubt it.

I went to look at some toys for my son the other day. I could not help but feel the toys today (compared to 25 years ago) were of lower quality - cheaper plastics, toys that didn't fit together as well, etc... I see that kind of stuff all over the place. In our "Walmartization" of our economy, we've rushed to lower the prices on everything, but in the end have both lower prices and lower quality goods.

Would I pay 20% more for the same crap, no. Would I pay 20% more for something better made with a "made in the USA label" - you bet!

Maybe if they can prove the operating cost makes it impossible to make a profit unless they increase prices, but what would happen, companies of other nations would still make products with cheaper labor and the American company might not be able to compete, I think most people shop for bargains and if they find equivalent product for lower price and same quality, it wouldn't matter where it was made.
