.......... I was fresh out of graduating from high school, at 18, I started working for a Federal employment in a Veteran's Administration Hospital, as a volunteer at first, then a part time payroll position to a full time employment as a Pharmacy Technician, I worked there for 21 years, before having to go disability, on the job injury to my lower back, I worked part time employment after that up until just last year, in 3 other stints of employment, I am now, fully retired, at age 64...........
It was the summer of 1953 and I was 15 years old. Went to work as the soda jerk and salesperson in our small local drugstore that didn't sell drugs. I was paid $15.00 per week for an 8 hr/5 day week. That doesn't sound like much, but it was better than the $4.00 for a 10 hour day chopping cotton in the heat. LOL. Hard times - but life was better generally than it is today.
Life is indeed what you make it. No one can do it for you.
Other than delivering newspapers and planting onions on a farm, the day I turned 16, I got my New York State working papers and started working in the refreshment stand at the local drive-in theater. My first duty was filling up the soda glasses.
does that count ????? lol
I went around neighbours houses offering to do some gardening or clean their cars for 50p or a £1
