True, but I'd use the netting anyway. They can come in with you, or little bastards find every crack in your wall and foundation too.

Funnel Webs live worldwide but only the Australian ones are big enough to carry lethal doses of venom. They are especially dangerous to children but all FW species have venom that's stronger than average for spiders their size. I live with dozens of the smaller variety but they mostly keep to themselves.

All spiders use venom to subdue & consume prey. In most there isn't enough toxin to harm you seriously but the larger the spider the more venom. Always a good idea to do research on the ones in your area.

But prefer to keep away. These tarantulas (six eyed, ten legged big relatively slow creatures) aren't mortally poisonous for humans as smaller varieties of eight legged spiders. Rain forest natives spike roast them on fire for dinner not very far away from where I live. Jealous anybody?

And I love all the critters except those trying to extract blood (especially politicians)/. We have venemous snakes in our yard sometimes. When they get to close, we use the snake-stick, catch them and take them about 100 yards away from the house on our property. Everyone is happy including the damn mics!

They wouldn't scare me to look at them but if one landed on me I'd probably have a heart attack. However, Wildboy, I would endure those and more to get to live where you do.

The brown spider on the picture seems to be a wolf spider, of the family Lycosidae.
Many spiders are quite useful in the gardens. We are lucky to have no venomous spiders here. I had once the occasion to hold a tarantula on my hand, with nice orange marks on the legs. But keep away from black widows.

That is indeed normal, most animals defend their breed. But black widows and snakes will also bite if they feel aggressed or cornered.

I love spiders XD I talk to them and everyone in my house feeds them wehn we get ant problems in the summer. I actually felt bad once because I didn't know there was one in my shoe and I put it on. He didn't die but I think I might have broken one of his legs :( I released him onto my back porch :)

My cousin who lives in Australia had a Huntsman spider in their home. They named her Hortense.

Inspired by their compassion I named a Banana Spider who had been struggling to survive in my utility for over two years Prunella. Unfortunately the freeze that soon followed did her in.

Though I never found Banana Spiders especially pretty they are not at all aggressive and since witnessing a recent decline in my area I actually miss them. I once felt responsible for one that had mistakenly build a web in a doorway that I had to take down. Seems she got all webbed-out and was unable to continue after that. My bad. RIP old girl.

We have no see um's. They are very tiny and bite like hell. They live in the reeves along the water. The spiders eat them so we let them alone.
