I have always wondered this: Where does the money for Lotto come from?

We are on the throws of financial collapse but each night Lotto numbers are drawn. Where does this money come from and how is it funded?

This will blow your mind. A math wiz friend and I did the math actually pretty easy. Anyway jackpots that pay out over 20 years works out to them paying you about 4% intrest on the amount you won. Holy Profits Batman You mean they keep all the money? Yes Robin We've been screwed.... What a scam.

I think from tickets previously sold. A percentage goes back into the jackpot and a percentage is held back always in a fund. People are gamblers by nature so we'll always have a running jackpot to win.

I'm still getting quite a bit of information from my fellow SH. So far, it seems this money is supplied through taxpayers and the government and possibly the same people that spend their money on lotto tickets.

The money comes entirely from lotto ticket sales and interest earned on that money. Lotto is making a killing.

LOL! I am not a regular lotto player. I spend the occasional .50 cents on a number. It just amazes me that sometimes the jackpot is so huge and the economy is so weak, it just makes sense that we shouldn't even have lotto.

Us....in one way or the other....here in Illinois, they are considering privatizing the lottery (state).....And Chicago plays a part in that one....I imagine it will get a little harder to win and not as much will be doled out...

Gambling is recession proof. Just like alcohol, prostitution, and other vices. People will spend their last on lotto tickets. Every once in a while they get thrown a bone. I knew a guy who spent $100.00 a week on tickets for two years, and when he won $500.00 he was the happiest man on the planet.
