I too prefer the picnic style showers. It's more personal and fun, less formal. You're celebrating the birth of a child for goodness sake, why be stuffy about it. Lol, I was just at my sister-in-laws and learned some big don'ts. If you live in an area with extreme winters, don't leave the drinks in the car, even over night. - If you have people bring food, don't order pizza and eat it in the next room. - If you have the shower in a church don't swear like a sailor. Not a strict rule but it's tacky.

    Some good games:
Toilet paper game - everyone tries to guess how many squares of t.p. will fit around mommy's prego tummy.

    Observation game:
Without warning you pull Mommy from the room. Then you ask the guests questions about her appearance, ie. Is she wearing earings? a necklace? what color is her shirt? etc.

    Gift Bingo:
Everyone gets a blank bingo card and fills it with things they think Mommy will receive. Then as the presents are opened, play bingo.

Basically, treat it like a party, a celebration of new life, not a womens' club, not an excuse to get gifts. Those are the mistakes I've seen.

From my experience, the best baby showers I have been to, were turned into picnics at someones house....where guys and girls can all get together and have a good time....food....beer, not for mom to be of course...

but then again you could go with the more traditional ladies only thing...find a hall to rent...put together a list of food you would like brought, or have it catered...maybe check with local restaurants and see if they have a party room or something where you could have the shower and order food from them....

I like the picnic style...everyone bring something to eat way the best...

Fun
