How would you explain Democrat and Republican to a 3rd grader?

I'm Canadian so this would be a pointless exercise for me to do.

"Those are 2 groups...these groups are called 'parties'...that believe that they know how to best lead America, even though they'll never compromise...that means 'get along'...on important issues. They would rather let the country fall apart then admit that alone, they are incapable of running the country."

... the republican's are the party of very bad ideas...the democrats are the party of no ideas...

Democrats help each other and care about their neighbors without telling them how to live (but they do hope you're most excellent). They want you to be able to grow the plants you want, have freedom of/from religion, marry who you want, go to the doctor's when you need to and have babies when you want.They want our roads in good shape, electrical power grids to work so we don't have rolling black outs, bridges to stay safely up, our earth to stay unpolluted, planes to fly safely, our water to stay clean, wolves to live wild and free and our trees to grow, They often read more and pay attention better when they do, and that's important when they have to know about politics. They want better schools for you guys so you can learn and get jobs so you can have food, mediicine, a car and a place to live when you grow up. They want people to be able to go to college and start businesses.



Republicans like to vote like they're rich, interfere with your doctor, tell you what you can grow and who you can't marry. They like to call Democrats and protesters rude, bad names and try to make them look bad. They like to bully others about religion. They believe in carrying guns in case of crazies.



But all that doesn't matter very much, whether you're a Democrat or Republican, because banks and huge companies are running our government, but that's another discussion...

Democrats operate in the real world, and republicans operate in fairy tales.

Remembering back to when I was in 3rd grade, I think my mother would have said something like "I'm a Democrat because I believe I'm my brother's keeper, and your Father is a Republican because he secretly agrees with me but can't admit it." :)

I would tell them "Well, democrats and republicans are people who think the government knows what's best for them."

Telling children things like this, only serves to shorten their very limited time as children.

But ignoring a direct question with "Run along and play, dear" isn't respectful. If the question were to come up seriously, a sensible parent would provide a sensible answer.

Luckily, I avoid such asinine situations by not having children, "respectful", serious, sensible or any other kind.

Republicans think people should take care of themselves and take responsibility for their actions.

Democrats believe the government should take care of everybody and if you did something wrong it's probably somebody else's fault.

I think if you did that you'd have a little Democrat on your hands. Not taking the heat is a popular pastime for kids that age lol.

Democrats are stupid and screw everything up ... Republicans the same.

Simple: Democrats are for Big MORE Government and Dependence.
Republcans are for Smaller LESS Government and Indepedence.

Then if the republicans are for "smaller government and independance", WHY are they always trying to tell a woman what she can and cannot do with HER OWN BODY?? Isn't that BIGGER GOVERNMENT? *aka* "womb police"??
