How would YOU conduct a sex education class?

I would teach 6 weeks of consequences and 1 week of the "mechanics".

Well, not all parents are educated on the matter.

I understand that, it isn't the fact they are not educated, they just don't feel comfortable discussing the matter with their children. When my kids were growing up and asked questions, the questions were answered.

Yes, but were they answered correctly? Some parents really are uneducated. Once, when I was in health class, a girl said that her mother told her that she could not get pregnant "the first time." HER MOTHER. Idk, I don't think it's wrong for kids to get information about sex from somewhere other than their parents.

Trouble is, most parents don't bother telling their kids anything (Think "Carrie's" Mother), also, the TV is not a very good baby-sitter.

No, not have to as in it's a requirement to sign up, have to as in the kid cannot attend without a parent's permission.

Oh, I see, no I wouldn't give permission because the system would be trying to take one of my parental rights away.

First I would make it a year long class:)

Starting out with human development from conception in the falopian tubes on to adult hood.

Then the hormones of males and females focusing on effect to sexual anatamy. (The basic of Natural Family Planning).

Then all the STD's and how the can be transmited and their effects.Maybe have someone with a life long STD come in to speak to the students.

Then birth control methods, how they work within the body, if they are chemical based, and why they don't work. Looking at statistics....

Talk about how drugs and booze effects on bc useage(or lack of). Maybe have some woman who have been effected by booze/drugs on their life.
Talk about abstance and celabicy:)

Child development and pregnancy...maybe have them earn extra credit for caring for a young child.

Elective abortion procedure and exactly what happens with different types, the effect on the moms and the fathers.

Maybe have some young moms/parents come in and disscus their life and how it came to

be. Talk to birth mamas that chose to find a family to love and raise their baby.

The effects and complications of that. Maybe some adoptive parents.

I think being honest with teens about what happens in an abortion and how it's done will not only encourage them to choose adoption in the event of an unwanted pregnancy, but also encourage them not to have sex in the first place, so they don't have to make that decision.

Exactly. Having ALL the facts, not glossed over, about how they are done and child development....at least thier eyes will be open going in. To many don't have a clue.

Like Joe Friday would say. . . . Just the facts. .. and talk a whole lot about STD's. Put the fear into them or gross them out. . . whichever worked the best!!!

My main point would be that anytime you have sex, you might end up with a sexually transmitted disease or pregnancy. You can use birth control and condoms to try and prevent it but it's not fool proof. I'd also teach them that oral sex IS sex. My main point would be that true love waits. Personal responsibility would be every sentence I spoke!

Yes, too many foolish young teens that think that oral and anal sex is perfectly safe... *sigh*

Safe sex.... and I'd use volunteers to demonstrate....



Just kidding about the volunteers... hell, at that age they could probably teach the sex part of the class...

I'd start out with "Don't do sex! You will get pregnant and die. Now everybody take a condom."
