I have never and will never block anyone for any reason...ever.

Blocking is ALMOST always used to quiet differing opinion. It should be used on bullies and stalkers, but they are very rare. I have only seen ONE actual incident of bullying since I have been here. Blocking is for closed minded cowards.

As of right now, about four. When someone blocks me, I will usually block them in return and remove the block about a week or so later to prevent the usual tactics of blocking, unblocking long enough to throw in a cheap shot, and then blocking again before you can respond. Two of the four blocks only remain because they were deactivated before I could remove the block, because you can't remove a block from a deactivated user. The other two are blocked because they're just stubborn and argumentative beyond reason (I've no intention of unblocking those two anytime soon).

When I first stated with Sodahead, I blocked. I soon learned it didn't mean anything - there is always another Yahoo to take their place. Now I have zero blocked who are still on Sodahead. It's much better to ignore them and, if they continue, bring problems to the attention of the site managers and let them ban for bad behavior.

Just the one asshat who told me he was going to hunt me down and kill me. But I'm blocked by a total of 38 self identified liberals, and 18 conservatives. Apparently, being a staunch libertarian is more upsetting to liberals, than it is to conservatives...whoda thunk.

I started out with the same philosophy on blockers until one would unblock me, leave a comment on my poll then re-block me. So all blockers now get a retaliatory block from me. It has created my very own "special list"

Same here. Instead of blocking those who debase themselves by name-calling, I just ignore them....or reply with a little humor, e.g., someone once referred to me as a "Republican douche-bag. " I replied something to the effect of, "Why were you so nice. I've been called much worse...and to be honest, I actually may be the latter, but never the former." :-)

And please, don't believe the hype;

As many already know, I can be quite vicious when duly provoked... and I fully own that rather unpleasant aspect of my persona.

That's another reason that I use the block feature; to prevent myself from getting sucked into any senseless on-going malignancy, which could easily result in my being deactivated.

I like this site, despite all its flaws and its highly duplicitous staff; and I want to be able to continue to enjoy it.

I don't knock the people who don't block; that's their prerogative, but that still doesn't make anyone better or worse than anyone else.

Some people have the tolerance to deal with endless foolishness, and some just don't.

I'm one of the latter.

I agree with you. I don't block if its a differing opinion or a writer who seems out of the loop of whats going on here or racist or mean. The annoyed and angry ones need to be heard too. Maybe we define bullying differently but I have seen some of it. Plus some out of control arguments.Perhaps I am just on the wrong sites.

Everyone will define it differently, I have been pointed to arguments claiming proof of bullying and been surprised at how mild an offense has to be to offend someone. I have a higher threshhold for that here because it is an opinion site. I assume that anyone willing to post here must have a strong opinion and some will therefore defend it vigorously.

We report those posts like the one the vampire showed above and they are deactivated soon after. Some people ask for it too by being just as mean as the people harassing them (back?). They may have even started it. I reported one for being such a nasty jerk. An impostor made a funny picture saying it was me being mounted by a goat but they were deactivated as well.
