Well, if you start at the old Jones farm, they ain't there no more, they left when his momma started bein a little touched in the head, and you go down the road a piece, past old man Johnson's store, I don't shop there iffin I don't hafta on account of the way he left the church, it just wasn't very christian of him to say those things in parkin lot of God's house, I don't care what Mary Lou says, bless her heart, anyways then you veer left at that long strech of road a couplah miles before you get to the stoplight in town, not that we ever really needed a stoplight, the stop sign was plenty good for us, but I rekon Bud's nephew felt like he hadta mark his territory after he won the city council seat when that fella Billy died, I heard it was all the stress of that job that killed him, but iffin you ask me that dog won't hunt........

well actually you don't have to walk out here. you break down someone stops and asks ya iffen you need help and will generally know just how to fix it. or take you to town to get it fixed. And we even have cell phones nowadays.

I broke down on a remote stretch of 101 in WA state and walked for miles, there was no bars on my cell phone out there it seems to be a dead area. I did get a ride into Forks eventually. It was a long day but don't get me wrong..I love living in the country.

always more pleasurable than a city mile, a city mile seems like fifty miles to me. all that noise, traffic and smog smell. blah.

Well, you go down the straightaways until you see a brick house on the right and then when you go over the wooden bridge you will go around the bend, stay on the blacktop and if you see a dolphin mailbox, you've gone too far. :)

Thanks. When I did some flood work after Hurricane Floyd in NC, I stopped at a Fire Station to ask directions and that is almost the directions I got verbatim.

When I stopped, he had no idea what the street was and asked for the insured's name and from there proceeded to tell me how to get there. I never forgot it... lol.

PS I did find the place. :)

I know... and when I left the Fire Station, I was thinking, "You have got to be kidding me... I am never going to find this place." Amazingly enough, the directions worked great! :D

A country mile is actually the same distance as a regular mile except that in the country sometimes a mile seems a lot further because it is so far between things. The wide open spaces make any mile in the country seem much longer than a mile in the city or urbanized areas.
