How do you recognize a sock puppet on sodahead?

New memberships, those who are usually on the attack trying to cause trouble. Those you see only now and them. No friends.

I'll have to look around some more, i'm not all that familiar with sock puppets...yet lol

I've been trying to figure that out as long as I've been on here. I've been told certain people are sock puppets, but they seem ok to me.

Been here for 2 days and has 367 friends.

A profile that's been around with not much activity but comes out every so often.

I have never seen one, but I have heard of them.

Not sure what a sock puppet on SH would be.

I suppose I can give away my secret for detecting SodaHead sock puppet clones now. Some Right Wing Nut Job SodaHeaders were using a small army of Sock puppets to rave their questions to the top of the questions list and their comments into the top opinion spot. The dead giveaway was that all the raving sock puppets were created on the same day and logged on at the same minute. The sock puppets are probably created and controlled by browser scripts.

Little or no personal info on their profile page. Only a few friends, sometime lot of answered questions, but not many raves. Or just a plain old jerk. Toxic Socks!

Belligerent behavior and fairly recent memberships

New. No Description, No friends, Messaging you out of the Blue "Can I get your email, Let's talk over email, Lets swap photo's" "I really want to be close with you, we could be so good friends" "I really want to get to know you" and asking for personal information.

Um...they message the actual Sodahead? I think. Or like you see that they have no friends =(, or they are on like level two, and the real Sodahead has been there longer....

Look at the profile pic and then look at the level. If the pic is of someone that you know is a level 15 but the imposter is showing a level 1 that's pretty much it.

It's really just common sense...look at the account profile

People who comment and get angry, when you comment on what was said! like you just interrupted their conversation or something.

There's many terms, fake, impostor, sock, impersonation, but they are usually made by current or past users simply to harass, fish for info or other reasons. SH shuts them down immediately. They as that if you suspect that to turn it in to them. Some are very obvious, especially when you've experienced them yourself, like blatant harassment or fishing, which is asking for you personal email and saying they'd like to swap photos. I've had both of those quite a few times and they are all shut down by SH. Read some other responses to see how you can spot them.

ah yes... they tend to be pretty obvious... at some point they make a claim which is obviously not true...

A blank profile that is only minutes old and they are insulting someone, blatantly, or they ask for weird information like you personal email and photos. Seriously, the first one is obvious, the second one, not quite as obvious, but SH does not approve of that behavior and deactivates the account.

New account, no friends, no avatar, no nothing.. I stay away from them, you should too..

These tips will help you sniff out any sock:

1.New Profile – Just became a member today or very recently. Almost as if they’ve materialized out of nowhere.
2. Incomplete Info – Sparse or no personal information.
3. Media – Absence or scarcity of media. Almost as if it [the profile] was thrown together moments ago.
4. Avatar - Often there is no picture or the picture doesn’t seem to match the sentiments expressed. Example a minority who espouses awful things about the racial group they belong to. A sock will typically have very few raves, few friends.
5. Single Issue – No varied posting topics. If it seems like they're swarming on a particular issue.
6. Seditious Talk – Their language is wildly inflammatory.

The more questions that answered in the affirmative, the more likely it is that you’ve got yourself a bonafide sock.

My profile could fit that...but then I'm just super picky and only open SH about once a week.

LOL!!! Not really. Your profile isn't very recent new. You discuss a variety of topics. Socks are typically single issue commentators. Your avatar is adorable. Owls are wise and etheral creatures. You are a white male livining in South Africa, nothing you've posted seems to be disparaging towards any group you belong to... And you have a respectable number of friends... From both sides of the aisle.
