    OK... lets see...

    I take measures... I am acutely aware of my surroundings when "out and about".. or even doing my nightly walk around the block.

    I have a security system at my home, in my car, and there is one in my work.

    I have training in Hand to Hand combat, and extensive martial arts training with 30 years experience, and specialized Pistol Defense training with 20 years of experience.

    I have a healthy Shepard/Rototiller Mix, that could easily take a man down in an aggressive situation.

    I have several weapons, from guns to various martial art tools.

    The best way to defend yourself is to be prepared - for anything - at anytime.

    I do teach in another life, but not officially self-defense... however I do "help" at IDPA events as a range monitor, and I do help out new shooters when I see them blatantly doing things that are going to get them hurt.

    I lock my doors at night and sleep with my car keys on my bedside table. If I hear someone trying to get in the house, I will press the panic button on my car key. I know I will be able to shoot someone should I have to - I believe that a most dangerous scenario is to have a gun, show it, and then not have the guts to pull the trigger until it is too late. I try to ALWAYS be aware of my surroundings. Many people get mugged, raped, or killed primarily because they weren't reading their surroundings - and criminals DO read their surroundings. Some people walk around looking like victims, then they become one.

    I don't know martial arts but I know how to fight. I have guns too though just in case the other person has a gun. We have a sign actually that says.

    I agree with you. If an intruder comes in, then all bets are off for them. They are in your space with malicious intent and you have every right to defend yourself and your home as you see fit.

    That security system salesperson has a lot to learn.
