How do you help one of your children out of a Toxic Relationship ?

My Stepson age 31 is in a Toxic relationship with a 20 year old boy, the boy is controlling & Jealous , they fight all of the time my son calls me crying I tell him to leave but within days they are back together & "In love" . I think part of the problem is the boy is very handsome. There are so many nice guys out there but my son always runs to the badboys. He's 31 when will he realize there is more to love than a pretty face? I'm all out of things to say. I'm always worried that his jobless lover makes money Illegally . Why can't he love a nice guy?

I don't think you can help him if he doesn't really want to leave his friend. He's 31, not a child. He has to figure it out on his own. Be there to support him through this but I don't think you can or should do anything.

Bottom line? He has to do it. You can't get him out of it. All you can do is be supportive. Easier said than done I know, but it's the truth.
How do his friends feel about this? If you know them you might talk to them about it. They can be far more blunt than you and get away with it.

In either Hetero or Homosexual relationships... there can be one partner that is in fear that if they lose the other... THERE WILL NEVER BE ANYONE ELSE!! This happens with women all the time. Assure him, there are others out there that will treat him right and that he does not have to put up with this!!

if you have to go and get him or take him out to lunch just you and him and try to talk with him and reason with him.. be all like: hay sweety look, you need to see he beats you he treats you like crap, and on top of that hi is over bearing over controling and has jelousy issues...is that what you really want.

I have had two connected experiences with tainted love, well actually quite a few, but the one I want to recall most is the one I helped my fiance end and the one she helped me end as well. She didn't really tell me to just end it right away but I knew that's what she wanted because we both wanted to be with each other and knew there would never be a problem in the relationship and there isn't. All I can say is endless convincing.. don't let it be too late before it ends...

I'm sorry. It must be hard to watch your son being self destructive. I don't think you can do anything other than offer love and support when he is hurt. People tend to rebel if you tell them their lover is no good. It usually has the opposite effect from what you want.

that I have learned if I say one word against him I don't hear from my son in weeks. I just feel like he'll wake up one day and realize that he missed his Mr. Right

Some people take longer to get onto the right track. Hopefully he will realise he deserves to be treated better. Just keep loving him and being there for him.
