    Love cannot be bought (other than when dealing with a prostitute,) it has to be earned and grown slowly and carefully if it is to grow and blossom. Otherwise, it will not work and someone is going to be used and someone else will be the user.

    I think best thing to do if someone tries is to refuse all gifts and money and if they don't stop distance ones self from that person. But I know people who take the gifts knowing nothing will ever happen between them, they say if they want to give it I'll take it.

    That is what I mean by a user and a used. Once the person accepts the gifts it is a tacit agreement that more gifts may be a factor in swaying their "love".
    I cannot decide which is more demeaning.

    I refuse them, unless they demand that I take them. If its not going to happen between us, I always tell them that, and if they do not listen I will distance myself from them and let them know why....

    That isn't quite the right answer for me, but once, I did allow someone into my life who wanted to buy my love. It was strange and confusing, to have a man tell me he he'd been coming to where I worked for almost a year, just to see me, and hope that I'd be 'single' again. He told me he'd already bought me a house (I had one), wanted to buy me a new car, and didn't stop with the attention, in spite of the no sex 'clause' I made clear.

    I really really wanted to pick a good answer, BUT I have to be honest, even of it makes me shallow. I know, that's really bad...but honestly, the way it's going right now, I couldn't afford to say no!

    I've been with people who want to pay for things. I can't stand it. I don't like owing people and I hate to say it but thats how i feel. its one thing to grab a soda for someone when your in a store but I don't make an every day habit of paying for someone else and don't like them paying for me either. Im not saying I don't take a girl out and pay for dinner or pay for the movies but I don't pay every time we leave the house, no, and if she goes to pay for her own and I've paid a bunch recently i don't stop her. its the 21st century, both sexes hold jobs.

    not necessarily mean to get you in bed, but he wants more to the relationship than friendship. He wants to be your boy friend and thinks buying you stuff will make that happen.

    I've been there and done that. The feeling is empty and worth nothing. I rather have someone give me their love, support and a partnership instead of money or gifts. Because at the end of the day it's just emptiness only love can make u feel whole.
