This is what happens in an abusive relationship when someone wants their partner to get pregnant to keep them from leaving. They refuse to let their partner get access to birth control or abortions. They refuse to use a condom. They threaten their partner if the partner tries to get access to these things. It's called reproductive coercion or birth control sabotage. This is a great idea for the partners in these situations.

I wouldn't use it unless he wanted me to, even if I didn't want to get pregnant.

If a woman feels she has to hide her method of birth control from her husband, there are serious problems in their relationship.

Men don't control the universe anymore. More and more women are taking control of their own lives and their bodies. If a woman doesn't want a baby, that's their choice, not the man's.

It is a woman's choice if she wishes to use birth control, but it I think they are some serious issues in the relationship if she feels the need to hide it from her husband.

For a healthy marriage, all individuals involved should be open and respectful of the others' feelings. Ultimately, each and every one of us should have the right to control what transpires within our own bodies.

Prior to dying, my mother confessed to my father that she lied about being on birth control when I was conceived. She also lied about being on birth control when both my older and younger brothers were conceived. By this time, we were in our twenties. All my father could do was laugh.

Nobody should feel forced to have kids if they are not ready, if a wife does not want kids than she should just come out and tell her husband that, its wrong to allow the husband to believe it is possible if he really wants kids. Also you hear stories of a husband or wife trying to conceive without the other spouse's knowledge, like a wife would go off birth control without telling him and I heard of one guy who got caught poking holes in a condom. When it comes to having children, both parties need to be upfront about what they want instead of sneaking around behind each other's backs.

Ultimately its the woman's decision but in good relationships not only should he know but should also be a part in the decision (key words: good relationships... otherwise why would she hide it?)

Didn't know what to think about this issue so I went to the bible. Since women are subservient to men, logic dictates that women should simply do what they're told and be punished for deception.

Um, well, hopefully both would be in agreement about wanting kids or not. No woman should actively try to get pregnant without asking the man about it imo. It's a discussion they should probably already have had before they got married, in fact.

But if the man really wants kids and thinks they are trying, and the woman is hiding birth control, well that's just a crappy thing to do. Communication agogo :)

A significant other should know what medications their partner is taking, simply for health reasons. If one cannot trust one's partner that much, then there is a problem.

The news story is about women in countries where the man rules, the wife has no say in how many kids she should have, but I thought it would be interesting to know what people in general think of hiding birth control from husbands.

I think that because it really is a medication, and some serious things can occur - it's an important thing for one's loved one to know. Unfortunately, not all women are safe enough in some parts of the world to be able to determine what happens to their own bodies - so that changes the parameters of the discussion a bit. My husband and daughters know all of my medications/dosages. I am fairly certain I know all of theirs, too - and my older daughter is married and has her own home.

I do think that there are some cultural mores - even in the United States - in the older generation where they are much more private and think that revealing medical information to anyone but their doctor is taboo.

My wife and myself usually make all significant decisions together, and thankfully so far were always on the same page. We keep no secrets, in fact that's probably why we still haven't had an argument in 19 years.
