How do you feel about the quieter members of SH?

What about those members who literally don't say much, if not anything at all. It's a little weird if you ask me.

You post on their threads and all you get is a rave, or nothing at all and I'm not speaking about SHs who ignore and skip over most people's opinions - I'm talking about the members who even when asked for a little 'certification', you get nothing more than a rave or a simple one sentenced reply and in my case, that's pretty much the occasional thing they do...

Am I the only one here who notices that?

NB//: The members who I'm specifically pointing towards are one of the most active thread makers on this site - don't confuse a quiet persona with the category I'm speaking of.

Some of use just avoid inflammatory questions or would rather not weigh in on some. Also, some may not portion out time to get on daily. Others may simply feel that a succinct one liner is all they need to communicate what they want.

I think the "quiet" members are a lot quieter than you think. Some lurk and don't even post their own threads, just raving here and there. There's nothing wrong with that. I firmly believe that newcomers to a website should lurk for a while, until they have enough knowledge to figure out how things work on the site.

I kinda agree on that point but only kinda because that's not what I really meant when I made this thread.

Hmm, so you don't mean "quiet" exactly, just selective in who they reply to. I have never found a person who didn't respond when I asked them something about their thread (to my knowledge). It is the people who respond "THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWER" on every thread who seem to ignore the content of peoples' reply. I have directly asked the OP a question on those threads and got a generic "THANKS FOR REPLYING" without answering my question, which makes it blatantly obvious that those sorts of people don't actually read the responses.
  • Greatki... La 2012/05/20 13:19:22
    Greatkibble
Again not selective to who they reply to since they never reply to anyone at all, as far I've observed.

The people who do the thanking thing are a bit like the ones I'm talking about since they're just doing so because they either want you coming back to their threads or they're so busy trying to make points that quickly thanking is the quickest way to catch up with the opinions.

Imo, the 'quiet' ones are simply trying to accumulate points as well.

Hmm. Okay. Well I see what you mean now. That is a little odd. I don't reply to everyone on my threads, but I reply where I have something to say on their comment....which is every now and then.

Maybe the people you are thinking of don't even click on their thread to see the responses....maybe they just delete it from their happenings...although I guess if they rave at least, they've at least gone to their post....
  • Greatki... La 2012/05/21 03:33:20

They rave on almost every post. That's a clear signal that they're perfectly aware of what's going on between them and everyone else.

And yes, I believe it's queer behavior - but at least I can now peacefully move on with this topic.

Clearly you have someone in mind....why don't you just directly ask them why they do that? :)

As much as I've wanted to, I won't. I don't think they'd be interested in such a question since they've already ignored the past ones...
    Thanks for the advice anyway.

I know the type, you're talking about. I'm not exactly a social butterfly on this site but it does come off as strange sometimes. Some of them are probably socially challenged, others deliberately rude and yeah there are definitely some creepy people on this site. I've actually considered quitting Sodahead entirely lately. Its no substitute for an actual conversation with someone in person. I used to be addicted to Sodahead before I found a job. I guess I used it as a way to kill time. Those two years were such a waste and now Sodahead is becoming more of a nuisance rather than something I enjoy.

If it's becoming that much a nuisance just remember that the exit is always open, free of charge.
This site shouldn't be taken as a substitute for basic interactions and that's true - but that's not what the site owners said it was for too.

I feel it's all about how far people take it, and as I've observed plenty times, too many people go overboard on this site.
I'm no psychologist but I'm advising that you do what you feel is best for yourself, and add a spicing dash of common sense to go with it too. I'm sure you're smart enough to think of how to wisely moderate your time on this site, without it adding unwanted stress on your life in general.

Sometimes it is wiser to keep your mouth shut and listen to other opinions. Or in this case keep your fingers off the keys and read what others are writing.

No no, not in this case at all; in this case their fingers are most busy creating thread after thread after thread. It's where their interest lies - and their interest isn't in the interacting with other members.

The latter part, maybe... but don't confuse the topic here with quiet folks in general (coming from a guy who's 'quiet' himself), because what I specifically meant is geared towards the silent folks who are making an endless plethora of questions each day.
It's weird behavior if ya ask me but I'm not gonna let that get to me.

Everyone uses SodaHead in the way they are comfortable with. Some people are the type who in a crowd of people mostly just sit and listen, maybe nod their heads. Yes there are some who make lots of polls and don't really have any conversation with anyone. It's just their style. It means I will probably never really get to know them, but it doesn't matter to me.

Me being as quiet as a ninja here; I don't mind someone not really saying much to me. I think, just because people don't mind you answering their questions...that doesn't necessarily mean they want to talk you or care about your opinion. For most I'm sure this site is more of a fun game for most.

I know exactly what you mean. I "un-friended" one of those recently. The individual even managed to use one of my questions (though I admit, not a very original one!). I don't get it. I think they just want points, not social interaction.
