I don't own any guns at the moment, but I agree with Charleston Heston: Guns themselves are not a bad thing. They are a tool. A tool in the hands of a bad person is not a good thing, but it doesn't make the tool bad.

If every sane person owned/carried a gun, the crazies would get off fewer shots. . .

No, I'm only 20 but I'd like to take safety classes and such and get one fully registered for protection when it's all complete, plus start a collection. It'd be an expensive one for me though because I like a lot of them.. but would only display them

Guns don't kill people, the vast majority of personally owned firearms have never killed anybody and will not. If someone wants you dead they're about as likely to run over, brick, beat you with something or stab you as shoot you. Fear of guns is irrational when there are so many much more convenient items that will work about as well, aren't regulated and can't be traced.

Blaming the tool for how it's used it a little ridiculous, I think.

Sorry, Kat, I am agreeing with you. Many people hate and fear guns because of what they can do, rather than understand how to use the tool. I can understand if a person does not wish to own a gun, but blaming the gun for a person's irrational actions with a gun is ridiculous.

It would be a very safe town, criminals don't like a level playing field. They want you disarmed and alone and them loaded to the teeth and in a pack.

LOL! I do think there are a few people I've had as neighbors who probably shouldn't be armed. When I was first married, my ex and I lived in an apartment complex with very thin walls. Next door to a woman who became my friend, was a guy and his girlfriend. My friend said he used to beat her--could hear her screaming and being thrown around. A man like that shouldn't be armed.

No not all people should be armed or trained how to use weapons. Some people just are not mentally stable. Hotheads, abusive, jealous none need ready access to weapons. Unfortunately they will use whatever is available, people have been kicked to death, can't outlaw feet. Taking personal responsibility for ones actions needs to become a normal thing again.

I do think that training is the key. Like you said, you can't outlaw feet or fists or baseball bats!

The problem with gun control is that the government always takes the easy way out. It's easier to take guns from the law abiding citizens rather than the gun toting criminals who aren't giving them up without dying.

I'm a little weird: I refused to let my kids have toy guns, but I did make sure they learned how to handle real ones. I just did not want them to think that a gun is a toy, but I also wanted them to be able to handle a gun as a tool.

That's the way I feel. I think a whole lot of accidents involving kids and guns happen because kids think guns are toys and can't differentiate between the toy and the real one.

I'm a progressive, but gun control is something that I don't tow the party line on. Probably because I grew up on a farm and have been shooting guns since I was a kid. I love firearms! Especially WWII era firearms! I have a few Soviet Mosin Nagant M91/30's, a Mosin Nagant M38, an M1 Garand, and a K98 Mauser. I've got Milsurp fever!
