How do you feel about growing older?

I've been deleting files today and ran across this one and thought it was time to repost it. It fits my mood.

George Carlin on age (Absolutely
Brilliant)

IF YOU DON'T
READ THIS TO THE VERY END, YOU HAVE LOST A DAY IN YOUR LIFE. AND WHEN YOU HAVE
FINISHED, DO AS I AM DOING AND SEND IT ON.

George Carlin's Views on Aging

Do you realize that the only time in our lives when
we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're
so excited about aging that you think in fractions.

'How old are you?'
'I'm four and a half!' You're never thirty-six and a half. You're
four and a half, going on five! That's the key

You get into your teens,
now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

'How old are you?' 'I'm gonna be 16!' You could be 13, but hey,
you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . You become
21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you
sound like bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now,
you're Just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?

You
BECOME
21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on
the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and
your dreams are gone.

But wait!!!
You MAKE it to 60 You
didn't think you would!

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30,
PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.

You've built
up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you
HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80's and every day is a
complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30 ; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't
end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; 'I Was JUST
92.'

Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you
become a little kid aga in. 'I'm 100 and a half!'
May you all make it to a
healthy 100 and a half!!

HOW
TO STAY YOUNG
1.
Throw
out nonessential numbers.
This
includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why
you pay 'them.'

2.
Keep
only cheerful friends.
The
grouches pull you down.

3.
Keep
learning.

Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain
idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.'
And
the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

4.
Enjoy
the simple things.

5.

Laugh
often,
long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6.
The
tears happen.

Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is
ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7.
Surround
yourself with what you love
,
whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your
home is your refuge.

8.
Cherish
your health:
If
it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you
can improve, get help.

9.
Don't
take guilt trips.

Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT
to where the guilt is.

10.
Tell
the people you love that you love them
,
at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS
REMEMBER
:

Life is not meas ured by the number of breaths we take,
but
by
the moments that take our breath away.
You!

Why worry about something that is inevitable?? Look after your health as much as possible, try to maintain a positive attitude towards life in general and hope for the best! More you cannot do.....

I don't suppose growing old is so bad when you consider the alternative.

I have passed the point of no return. It's a matter of trying to squeeze what I can out of the next 20-30 years!

There is only one very true fact about getting older. The alternative is not acceptable.
The older I get the more life experiences I have and you can never get enough!

Thank you. I think it takes someone that is already there to see what is truly valuable. I remember back when I was young I could not truly understand old age even though I was very close to my grandparents. Nothing like experience to teach you all you need to know. :)

I hate it, I can not do anything of the stuff that I use to love . Like Skateboard or parkour. I use to like to run everywhere , life is just so much more fun when you run places . To old to do that.

I loved Carlin's bit on aging. It affects us all so we better just deal with it. I don't think I even let it affect me until recently. You DO slow down in your 60's. It doesn't mean you can't be beautiful, dynamic, wise, interesting and vital. But, you do slow down and your body doesn't quite work like it used to. So you have to rethink what your goals are. You keep active physically and mentally, you laugh as often as possible, and you cherish every day. That will keep you young at heart forever! But, to answer your question...i would rather be 20 years younger, but I'll take whatever age I am given and wake up each day with a smile grateful to still be here. LOL

Except for losing strength in my arm that I tore the rotary cuff, I am feeling better than I did in my 50s. I also had my gall bladder out while I was recouping from the rotary cuff surgery and it cured my Achilles tendonitis. It's weird, but it did. I hate to say it, but not having to watch my late husband struggle through his day helps.

It's not my brain I'm having trouble with, it's my body. It can't do what I want it to, but I have to be fair and admit it's not just because I'm getting older. I have a lot of old injuries to live with.

I love this, thanks for reminding me. : ) As far as how I feel about growing older, I can't pretend to be thrilled, about some physical changes that have happened since I turned about 53. The mental adjustment, is still a work in progress.

I am 34 and its a weird age your not but your not young.
You have to exercise and watch what you eat.
Hangovers last for day yet you never get drunk.

So sorry to hear. But that cancer is a slow cancer and very often has good results for full recovery. Good luck to your family and I will be praying for your brother. I lost my husband to pancreatic cancer about a year an a half ago and prostrate cancer does have a high rate of survival, so stay positive!
