How Do You Celebrate New Year's Eve?

It's just another Day
You!

We say all the time "how things change as we get older", especially how we celebrate special occasions. When I was young, New Year's Eve was the grandest celebration of all. Dancing until my feet hurt, drinking a little too much (!), and staying out til the wee hours of the morning. Now its a quiet dinner with good friends, a glass of wine to bring in the New Year which I won't see because we're home and in bed by 10:30.

How do you celebrate?

we pay a lot of attention to this night here in Macedonia. people usually celebrate it at restaurants, buy new clothes and look the best they can. we also buy presents for our family and significant others.

if we don't want to spend a lot of money, we celebrate with friends at someone's house, buy food and drinks and dance there till 7 am.

other option is to visit some of the big European cities and celebrate there, it is not expensive, 200-400 euros for four days. that is what i am going to do this New Year's Eve. I am visiting Vienna (Austria)
expensive 200-400 euros days years eve visiting vienna austria Vienna xmas

My hubby and I used to go to bars on New Year's Eve. When we had young children, we decided to take them to a movie. Now, we stay home and worry about our young adult children. This way, we are available to give them a ride home should they need one.

Going to a movie in the afternoon and out for pizza afterwards is a great way to spend the Holiday Eve. Most of the movies out are released especially toward the Christmas/New Years break.

Its tough waiting for those kids to come home, isn't it? Just think what we put our parents thru!!

This year we're on a tight budget because we're saving for a big move out of Texas; we're just buying a couple bottles of bubbly and watching movies with some close friends. Nothing crazy.

Pretty much like you, Sissy, except I tend to be a night owl to an extent, so probably will be up 'til midnight, reading or watching movies, but by myself..

You are so right when you say things do change as we age. Back in the good old days we'd hit a club and party 'til we dropped. Today we get together with another couple and struggle to see the ball drop at midnight. Most of the time we're asleep on the couch or in the chair as the new year rolls in. Isn't it a joy getting old??? LOL

LOL. That's exactly what we do Betz. About 20 years ago, (after the party years of our youth), we and two other couples went out for our annual Prime Rib dinner at a nice restaurant. That particular night the prime rib was grissley and you had to pick among the fat to find the meat, the drinks were excessively high and us women decided we could do better than that. Ever since we take turns now and put on the meal each year with all the trimmings. You at least TRY and watch the gall drop, heck, we're home and down for the count by 10:00 PM.

No big plans and that's okay by me. I did buy a nice bottle of champagne this year. My favorite thing is getting up early the next morning, make a nice pot of steaming hot coffee, warm a special pastry and watch the Rose Parade from Pasadena, CA. I've been twice, it's such a beautiful parade.
