Take a really deep breath. Completely fill your lungs. Hold your breath as long as you can. Then do a really deep breath out and completely empty your lungs. Breathe in deeply again. Continue until you think hiccups have gone.
I either hold my breathe til i cant anymore. or if that doesnt work I drink a lot of water and hold it in again if the water doesnt help. usually stops after that

Also, brown sugar wouldn't work, I don't think. It doesn't work with sugar substitute, or powdered either.
