There were three big players in consumer mail order electronics in the 1960s and 70s

Lafayette Radio & Electronics
Allied Electronics
Radio Shack
Heathkit to a lesser degree

At that time Radio Shack was at the bottom of the bunch do you remember the others and what company did you like the best.

radio shack bought out allied radio and killed the name because the fcc wouldnt let them be called allied radio shack

radio shack saw the light and turned their marketing to what the people would buy - they do not resemble the 60's store at all they are now a phone and toy outlet.

Yep went to Radio Shack to buy a few resistors and other components for a project I was doing and found that out! It’s turned into a Spencer’s Gifts for geeks and yuppies. And I forgot that they bought out Allied. I think Allied still prints an industrial electronics catalog I used to get it when I worked at NASA.

if I want electronics gegaws I go to KING electronics - a local store here in indy or go online- the new sears catalog LOL (cept you cant use it in the outhouse )
