How accepting is THE WORLD about gay/lesbians?

I mean, the US is apparently starting to accept it more and more, but what about other countries?

I think it's alot less of an issue here in the UK than it is in the US.

In September 2011, the Government announced its intention to introduce same-sex civil marriage by the next general election. There is no major political party against this.

It varies by country. Most European and many Asian countries are pretty tolerant and accepting of homosexuality. Most African and Middle Eastern countries are very intolerant, and in many of those countries it even carries the death penalty. In the United States it widely varies by state (though it hasn't been illegal in the U.S. for quite some time).

i would say the UK is quite accepting. i personally support their rights the same way my great grandparents supported suffragettes.

Not very. And you know why? People are given negative stereotypes about gay people being effeminate, promiscuous, immature, bitchy, and generally unlikeable, and then some dumbasses do a gay pride festival which shows that it's true! Would a nice normal person put a bright pink thong on and carry a banner saying how Christians are idiots? I think not. It we are to be equal, we need to do what every other group in society that has been looked down upon did - prove we're equal. Get the image of gay people being completely normal, hard working, monogamous, tasteful and with jobs out there are people will think we are worthy of equality. Bitching about it and holding gay pride festivals does what the suffragettes and Black Power did - make us look different to everyone else and make us less likely to be accepted.

The other way round. People need to see us as just like them so they can empathise with us. You can empathise more with a black person in America than a witch doctor in Africa, because they're more similar to you. Same with gay people.

Well most of Europe is pretty good especially north and central Europe, parts of Asia like Japan, South Korea, and especially Thailand are ok, Australia not so much depending on which part, Africa not at all same for most of the middle east, only certain parts of south America like brazil.
As for the us only part like most of the coastal states but parts especially the south (big shocker there) are still really bad.

The only reason they are accepting it is because its being pushed down everyone's throat. How about other lifestyles as well? Not being accepted but you dont really see them doing anything about it. Most are just trying to live their lives instead of making everyone accept things and etc.

Yeah, I think that all life styles should be accepted, I mean, there's a quote, "who are you to tell me how I should live my life?" which is so true,

yes, and i accept every lifestyle out there. I dont like how they want to shove it down people's throats. I think thats what annoys me the most. Im in the BDSM lifestyle and not everyone accepts it, and the ones who do, they are still looking at me like im crazy. But what i say to people, who have different lifestyles, you do what you want and live your life the way you want and just ignore everyone else. It's how i live my life, and get on with it. :)

That's exactly how I feel. I'm a gay guy wanting to live a normal life, act normally, get a good job, have a lifetime partner. All this gay pride makes us less likely to be accepted or respected by society. It makes us look like freakish, promiscuous, bitchy man-whores who only think about sex. Do you want people like that getting married and adopting? Of course not.

Depends. Scandinavian countries are very accepting. Most of Europe seems to be more accepting than America. In South America it depends where you are. Many African countries and the Middle East are the worst. Homosexuality can get you executed in many countries in both places. Cities in Turkey can be surprisingly tolerant but I wouldn't flaunt it.

Still illegal in many countries with stiff penalties (no pun intended) for engaging.

Many of those who support gay marriage are actually conservatives. Those who support gay marriage and vote for the other parties will have less reason not to vote conservative in future. There is also an openly gay conservative cabinet minister, Alan Duncan.

UKIP's a fringe party and always will be. No political party is about whether or not to support gay marriage. They would have all been against it when they were founded. Times change but 'no seats' UKIP and its 3% of voters don't want to. Real conservativism is all about a smaller, less interfering state and greater individual freedom.

You're a bit behind the times, my friend. They're currently polling a percent higher than the Lib Dems, at 9%. And that isn't conservatism, it's libertarianism.

They were polling at over 16% at one stage between the last general elections (higher than lib-dems and labour) so they have actually gone backwards. That 3% is what they went on to get in the last general election in 2010. It's general election results that count!
UKIP also got 7 councillors elected at the 2011 local elections (this was an increase of 0 from when they were last contested). The conservatives won 5,109 council seats in those 2011 elections.

We got 16% in the European elections. We were polling at 3%, now we're at 9 or 10%, thanks to Cameron's broken promises, and we've stolen a fair few of the tories' politicians as well, most defected because of Cameron's ineffectuality. Most likely we will get power in the next government, considering the Lib Dems are planning to form a coalition with Labour, the Conservatives will either be kicked out of downing street or they will have to form a coalition with UKIP, which means we'll get our referendum on Europe, and hopefully a much more simplified tax system. I'd also like to see The abortion limit brought back to 20 weeks, 24 is too high.

Yeah I know that 16% was what they got at the European elections because that's their issue, and many conservatives that agree with UKIPs position on Europe voted for them.
The UKIP support fell away dramatically after that at the 2010 general election. UKIP are unlikely to even get one seat at the next general election, let alone be in a position of power. As I said in the recent 2011 local elections they failed to even gain one council seat.

Ladbrokes have UKIP at 3-1 to even win one seat at the next election.

We're in a good position at the moment, and it'll be even better if Europe gets worse. We shall see. The three traditional parties are all useless, spineless and the same now, and they're trying to divert attention away from the big issues they can't / won't handle, like immigration and the NHS and focusing on bloody gay marriage. Also, your information is flawed - we have 9 local seats now, and considering we only had candidates running in 1/8 of the total seats it's not particularly bad.

Massive changes are on their way as regards Europe, the rich countries can't keep bailing out the poor and it might fall apart on its own soon. I would also get down the bookmakers if I had your election confidence.

I probably would if I were 18... And massive changes are on the way, they're demanding more and more money and not addressing the underlying problems - the banks. Seeing as capitalism works on a cycle, where banks lend lots, inflate the money supply then it all comes crashing down, it is very very dangerous to either allow banks to make bad loans, or to be 'too big to fail'. Either we set up a very strong regulating agency, or we break up the big banks. If Spain had done either of these, they wouldn't need a bail out. As it is, it's probably the best thing they can do to let the banks fail.

European countries are a bit more accepting than the US african and middle east not really at all. Asian a little bit but still not much. Japan a bit more than some. India and Thailand are ok. Australia depends on which state. We have got a long way to go. TBH the US some areas are quite accepting others are far from it. Gay and lesbians are still being killed for their orientation. I read a story about 6 months ago of a 19 year old Trans girl (yes I know trans is not a orientation) being kidnapped tortured dismembered and set on fire. They only part of her body they found was her torso. and BTW this was not national news like it should have been. So no I do not think the US is that accepting.
