As bad as AIDS is in South Africa is.The most horrific aspect of this is that some ignorant South African men rape babies as a 'cure' for Aids.Some of the victims were as young as six-months-old, a number of whom died from their injuries, while others contracted HIV. The largest increase in attacks has been against children under seven.

Actually I do know... but none of the other answers were correct. Or even close. They bathe in their own drinking water. So basically all day they walk around in human and animal waste and then they go wash their bodies off in the nearest water then later an other person will come up and gather that water for their family and whoever else therefore drinking diseases. There you go.

South Africa is one of the most dangerous places in the world but also my home what you are seeing is the aftermath of apartheid which i and my community fought against i formed and joined political movements and mass demonstrations which i was arrested for at least once a week i was stabbed,beaten and shot at because of my beliefs, what you are seeing is a broken country trying to fix itself

Some do not all know how it is contracted, media states what is in their interests. Some NGO's and policy makers are corrupt. Money to buy condoms are scare in some areas. Genicide has been used in Kampala but it is not that all africans rape people etc, terrible to insinuate that! Not every African Country has high AIDS rates and the West are rather Ignorant! They are not all jungle jumping ignorant people either. I was in West Africa this year and they have a rate of 1 in 20 infection rate. They simply really do not know much about how the infection is obtained due to lack of money. If they get ill, they die. Money is not used for medication or Dr.s if they don't have much. But most of the young are taught religion and they should reproduce not protect themselves. The list and reasons vary. There are a few things that happen that are terrible, but that happens also in the Western world too. I feel people read an article and become experts based on what? They have a problem, but actually most of it is not their faults.....But they are placing more and more free clinics in some areas for testing and past that, well I hope for them a better future!

Its rampant because when people from the US try to go down there and teach some of the people about condom use, they weren't allowed to show pictures of male parts nor say it so they put it on a stick. So people started putting condoms on a stick and sticking it in the ground outside of their doors.

Too much of a communication error and I'm sure the translators had a hard time not saying Penis to explain was a pain in the ass.

Although 'rape' is a large factor, there should have been an 'Other' option.
A large reason is that, at the beginning of AIDS, SA had just become democratic. The blacks were full of their 'freedom'. When white doctors, nurses ans aid workers told them about AIDS and that they should use condoms they thought it was a trick by the whites to stop them from breeding. They had been told what to do by the whites for nearly a century, they weren't going to be told anything by them any more, so they refused to believe in AIDS.
Only when it became obvious, even to them, that AIDS was not a lie, their witch doctors told them stories about having sex with a virgin would cure them. Instead it just spread AIDS even faster.
Another thing was the 'mobile hookers'. Women hitching a ride with long-haul truckers and sleeping with them in the back of their cabs. These women would, in this way, travel the length and breadth of Sub-Saharan Africa spreading the joy.

As was mentioned in a few postings, "messing with monkeys", "building a road through the isolated habitat" and so forth, I see it as a combination.

The "messing with monkeys" was not so much from fornicating with them as rather from truck drivers and highway workers eating "bush meat." What is "bush meat" one might ask? Bush meat is whatever is living in the trees being cut down and that includes monkeys. If they were infected with the virus, the virus is passed to whoever eats it.

Now it is running rampant.

The silly notion that having sex with a virgin will cure it probably doesn't help either.

They say you can take the monkey out the bush but never the bush out the monkey, they strongly believe in their traditions. When I still used to work, I asked one of the guys to help me clean, he told me it's against his tradition to clean, just a silly example what happens here. There much more serious issues concerning their traditions. It really irritates me. They stick together and gang up against people, you have no chance against them. They even ignore court orders, and the police are scared of them when they gang up. This would have never happened with our old government. Things are suppose to change for the better and not the worse, that's what's happening here. They are sick in their heads, nothing a person can do change their mind set.

In 1994 after they won, most of the ANC followers queued up at the banks the next day wanting there money, this is a true story, most people don't really knows what is going on in our country. All the big business have left the city centre and relocated to Sandton City, our new city centre, which is up and coming now. We have to pay for everything, tolls, high taxes, medical insurances. Private medical insurances are subsidizing the state hospitals. Now I wonder what is the government is doing with all our tax money? Some of the government officials own up to 12 houses in up market area's, you won't find house there for under a million $, yes I'm talking about from 8 million rand. They drive top of the range cars, the cars are lined up in their garages. I can go on and on, most probably I'll be kicked off SH ☺. Well that's it in a nut shell.

What you are dealing with is communism. The ANC leaders many years back said they were communist inspired and the government leaders of SA are the new Politburo of SA and just like the days of the Soviets, the leaders have massive perks and houses while the people have squat. Eventually the country will totally follow the path of Rhodesia including name change and total dysfunctionality.
