the problem is :
y=-x+5
y=1/2x+4
I need to graph the system. How do you do that? Please help.

+1to graph the problems you just list some possible numbers for x and substitute those numbers for x for example lets say x is 1, 2, 3, 4 so put in y = 0.5 (1) + 4 and that will equal y so in this example y equal 4.5 and x is 1 so your graphing pair is (1, 4.5) you go to your graph across 1 unit and up 4.5 units do this for both problems, in the first problem x is negative so pick out negative numbers, I hope this makes sense if not just ask.reply - jflip 2012/03/20 00:22:14 (edited)
+2Graph both lines and find the intersection, I think. I haven't done it in two years, but I think that's the way. If the lines intersect that's one solution, if they are the same that's infinitely many, and if they never intersect it's no-solution.reply - BreakingThrough 2012/03/20 00:20:30
+2Well for the first problem you start on 5 on the y axis. and then x is your slope, which is always over one. So your slope is 1 over 1. So from 5 you would go up 1 and over one, make a dot, up one over one, make a dot, ect. And connect your line. The second one you start at 4 on the y axis (make a dot). Then go up half a box, over on box ect and make your line. IT's EASIER WITH GRAPH PAPER.reply -
Thank you so much! I did do it on graph paper. Your answer was the most understandable, thanks again.reply - Breakin... makivka 2012/03/21 03:11:21
No problem! Math is ALWAYS a struggle for me, so I try to help others when I canreply
