I was in Canada (yes, it counts) for about an hour to see Niagra Falls, Mexico a couple times, Martinique, Guadaloupe, Bahamas (a couple times) and Aruba. I'd love to see Ireland, Italy and some other European countries.

Great!! After traveling outside of the US, did you want to return? I had that problem quite a few times, especially when I was in Asia.

Well, I was only there about a week each time I left. In some ways, I thought it might have been fun to stay and work on the island (or wherever I was) but I really like cold weather, too. I'd have to live somewhere that had cold weather. You sound like my nephew, except that he hasn't gone there yet, but says he will eventually move to Japan. (He is just 17 now). My boyfriend is very Irish (he was born here) sometime I think we'll go there together. He's gone lots of times. I can't wait. Ever since I read "Wuthering Heights" I always wanted to see the "moors".

You definitely should go!! Aside from the lengthy plan rides, I am sure you will enjoy it. I've never been to Ireland though, but I have been to England. Your nephew should go as an English teacher. That is the easiest way to live there, besides being military. You're the opposite of me, I have to be somewhere hot. It gets too cold, for me, where I am now, and I am ready to relocate. LOL!>

I'll pass that along to him. I actually am an English teacher, well, Language Arts. A couple years ago my husband and I separated and I started looking at those types of jobs but didn't want to leave or take my daughter to a foreign country if I was working. Now that she's a little older, I might check it out. It's funny that my boyfriend is so Irish that he hates anything English. I'm pretty sure a trip to England wouldn't be in the cards with him! One of the hot places that I went that was so pretty was Hautulco, Mexico..wow was it neat. Also Guadaloupe and Martinique were very interesting because of the rainforests and (inactive) volcanoes as well as beautiful beaches. In Aruba, they have very little crime and every resident speaks, like 5 languages. Where are you now? (You said it was too cold)

Oooh volcanoes and beaches!! I love it! I am actually in Atlanta right now. It's not hot now, but I don't like the winters here. I plan to move to Hawaii soon, if all goes to plan. Awww! Why doesn't he like the English? LOL!!! I've never been to Mexico, but would like to go. did you like it? If you taught English in another country, which one would you choose?

The history between England, Ireland and Northern Ireland. I remember as a kid in the 70's reading and seeing on the news about the bombings in Ireland between the Protestants (Northern Ireland, supporting England) and Catholics (against English rule). I live in Charlotte which is a bit cooler than Atlanta. I've been there lots of times it's a great city. Good luck getting to Hawaii (volcanoes and beaches). I'm not sure where I would go to teach English. I've always really wanted to go to Russia and thought I might go on a mission trip after I became a teacher (I thought it would give me more time) but most of them are either before or after school starts. I'll have to do some research.

Cool. I've heard about that before, but not in detail. And I think I saw a movie that references that time as well. I actually stopped in Charlotte on my way to D.C. a couple of months ago. I didn't get a chance to really see the place though.

I just got back from D.C on Sunday. I was there for 2 weeks with my daughter so she could meet some relatives on my Father's side and visit all the monuments, Smithsonians, Chinatown, Old Town, etc. It was really fun, I was born in D.C and lived in that area on and off for several years growing up.

Oh cool! I only got to see a few places while there, because we also visited Baltimore and PA. There was a lot of walking in D.C., the subway system is good though and very convenient. I stayed at L'efant Plaza Hotel, while there. It was pretty good because the train stops right at the hotel. How did your daughter like it?
  • Tarheel Mic-E 2012/07/08 07:45:56

She liked it very much. The first day we went into D.C. we got off the Metro at L'enfant Plaza and went to Starbucks there. We went to most of the monuments but it was so hot. My cousin lives in Alexandria about 2 miles from the King St. Metro Station. I love the Metro system but it got to be a bit expensive coming and going so much.

Yeah it seems like you guys went to a lot of places there. What is the name of the fish market area that's behind L'enfant Plaza? We went early one more and got some seafood there. They had everything! Did you do the Native American museum? We went to an Asian one too. I forget the name.

We didn't go around L'enfant Plaza other than Starbucks then went to the Smithsonian Castle and gardens then continued to the monuments. We were in the Natural History one (my favorite as a kid) for awhile, there was a Japanese exhibit at the Castle and we went to the Portrait Gallery and Art Museum (the one near Chinatown). We kept getting shuffled around to different relatives (which was good) and I wanted to visit a friend and her daughter in Reston, Va so we were there for a couple days. I was pretty much out of money and tired so we didn't' get to see everything we wanted.
