People who know how to get contrated with amazon or b&n without having to give away all their proffits write quite abit about the process.
Back when the RICO act was being used a lot in Florida I wrote a novel that involved that to some extent. Technically the property or cash seized under the RICO act is under arrest. The objects.
I had a law enforcement bureaucrat seize what was apparently a ancient Indian skull.
When meant that under the law back then he was technically arresting a dead person.
I just loved the ridiculousness of it.
Frequently called RICO or RICO act.
Allows law enforcement to seize the proceeds of criminal acts. Money, property, anything. WITHOUT a trial. Just take it. The idea is to take the profit out of crime.
Florida, at least for a time was interpreting it as though they could seize anything used in the act of committing a crime.
The budgets of some small towns in Florida were helped a lot by the arrest and seizure of drugs and drug MONEY. You would hear and read stories about some law enforcement leaders having very expensive official cars that their depts had gotten 'free' from drug property seizures.
Different states handled it in different ways.
