along with severe anxiety. Sometimes it gets so bad that I get Tactile hallucinations. I have been on anti-depressants but honestly a diet that my doctor put me on recently and Going on regular walks helps more than anything.

Not clinically depressed. I have had down periods but was able to pull myself out of it with diet, (whole grains and fresh fruits and veg ) lots of sunshine, exercise, and sleep. The worst thing you can do is be inactive, inside, isolated, and eating bad processed foods.

i have dysthymia, however it's spelled.it's not deep depression,it's like everyday can be a little grey.they also call it "the working sad"because they're generally highly functional.but if we get really depressed we can have "double depression"and suicide risk goes up.i control mine naturally with diet, exercise, and vitamins.had it for 12 years.

I never realised how much exercise could help until I started jogging or walking every day. Since I started exercising my down times have been nowhere near as bad as some I had before.

it was very severe from my mid-teens till late twenties. fortunately, I found gestalt therapy and some great therapists and have been completely free of it [without having to resort to medication] for over half my life now. thank god.

It's an awful thing it is. That black pit that you can't seem to crawl out of. Making you really just not care about your life and eventually anything in your life. The tears that fall to the floor when you think of the nightmare you're living...Unfortunately there are too many people who don't know the true meaning of depression.

Depression is short-lived with me. Because I give money to Medecins Sans Frontieres.
I only have to look at what Doctors without Borders do to realize I am blessed.

That's a very keen observation because I always feel like I am NOT the person I was supposed to be. I wonder myself what life would have been like. It's comforting to me to know that someone like yourself has such insight.

Yes, and I was put on anti-depressants for a few years. I went cold turkey off them (not recommended) - but now I wonder if it wasn't all in my head.
A few months after "quitting" I DECIDED to be happy ....and guess what?! I am.
Among a few other realizations I simply decided to be actively engaged in my life and love all that comes my way. It's been a bitchin ride since! ;)

I agree with you that's what i'm doing (except i never had medication) although sometimes i find myself going down i pull myself up. I've only been doing it for a few days but feel a huge difference. What i did today was write "I am happy" on my hand and everytime something was said or done that made me happy i draw a heart and when something is said or done that makes me unhappy i simply read "I am happy"

This world is big and I have a lot of responsibility in it as do all of us, I fall to my knees quite often, really often. God will one day take all that pain away.. This I look forward too.

Twenty plus years on MAO Inhibitors and its' effectiveness has continuously eroded over time. But I'm still happy to have had a period when I at least felt normal.
