LOL! This is how a text message convo would look if someone actually replied back to your fake text message while feeling awkward! I'm not going to pretend I've never done this... at least pretended to be busy on my phone. Have you?

Of course! I hate just standing somewhere like waiting for to go food at a restaurant so I stare at my phone and move my fingers like I'm not forever alone lol(:

Many times--Dial-A-Prayer worked well, as did NOAA weather reports, and pre-recorded court case updates for jury pool attendance..good numbers to keep on speed dial, you know? just for those times when an incoming call can save you?.It's easy to feign rapt attention and insert a few well-placed "OK' I'll check on that", "Ha Ha Ha you're so funny" " Sounds like a day I'd have" "Aunty Grace had a stroke? She's in intensive care !?" "Eddy would go..."---you get the idea.

Haven't we all? :) I really don't do it much, but if I'm feeling kind of awkward and left out in a social situation, I may whip out my phone and pretend to be busy to try and draw attention away from myself. It's silly, but it makes you feel a bit better when you're feeling uncomfortable.

It kinda lame, actually. It throws mixed signals too. Once upon a time, when a girl fiddled with her phone while talking to a guy it meant she wanted his number. Now-a-days (I know, I sound like an old man!) email is so good, women can pretend to be online to avoid men. How rude! What ever happen to the days women simply rejected guys she didn't like?

Not because i felt awkward but to avoid talking talking or looking up at my mom or dad when I get home from partying. Also avoiding people I don't like and getting into a conversation with them, which doesn't always work.

And anyways, it is very impolite to read and more so to answer your message when in company, it means they are not important to you. I personally ask to be excused so that i can see if it is an emergency like the house burning down and then wait to answer until I have time. That is when receiving a message, pretending is the worst
