Well, if it's unintended, we don't really know unless the other person speaks up. There have been a couple of people in my life who broke off the friendship without an explanation, so I'd have to say yes, I probably offended them. Oops!

yes is an understatement by the distance across the universe and then some. and 'some', is of course, an even bigger distance. I've insulted and offended everyone I know, at some time over the last 20 years. I've disturbed and embarrassed and scared them, as well as myself. this all happened because of undiagnosed bipolar, combined with heavy marijuana and alcohol abuse. I'd get totally out of control but I thought I was normal. people have been quietly and subtly distancing themselves from me since the early 90s.
but it's ok. they're only doing the sensible thing. I was seriously obnoxious for a long time.

I confess, I go to rehab (group therapy) for substance abuse. Last night, a man was pouring out his heart while a diva type young woman sat beside me texting. She was told to put her phone away. She kept yawning and making all sorts of impatient noises. The last straw was pulling her lip gloss out and using the applicator to apply during the meeting.

I spoke up and said "Why should I share anything if no one wants to listen? Jane over here is busy applying lip gloss!" Things sort of went downhill from there. I'm almost too embarassed to go back now.

Thank you for saying that . . . it really does mean a lot to me.

I did go back. I can't let one person interfere with my sobriety. For me it is life or death. When I relayed my experience in another group (I didn't name names), I was commended by the therapist and the other members. One said they had a similar experience, didn't say anything, left angry and used within ten minutes of leaving. I feel better and stronger now.

When I was six my mommy made a joke saying that she was going to get surgery to make herself skinnier and I thought she was serious, so one day I asked her when she was going to get that surgery and my dad said that I made her cry.

I believe just about everybody has done that at one time or another.Sometimes people can be sensitive about something or other that most couldn't care less about and in such cases it can be very easy to unintentionally offend them...
