I would get intimidated whenever a supervisor or someone in authority would raise their voice to me. It always brought back memories of my mom yelling at me and slapping me across the face. Today, if someone yells at me, I face them. And try to stay calm.
I think a parent slapping their child acros the face is one of the worst things to do. In my case, it left a big scar emotionally.

Back in the 1950s, children had no rights. Parents could discipline their children any way they wanted to. Thank God for new laws!!!

I have no doubt and I am sorry your mother was not mature enough to handle her life without hitting. She probably was treated that way as a child. My father was abused as a child and he chose to make a different life for his children, he never hit any of us, and one of my brothers and my father were bipolar. Lots of times mental illness will effect ones ability to control ones self.
You seem to be facing your emotional scars with courage, good for you. I wish you well.

Thank you Jane. Yes, my mom had a really explosive temper. And she was probably abused by her parents too. My brother remembers our dad hitting us with a belt or hanger when we were young. That's just the way my parents were raised back then. And they did the same thing to us.
Fortunately, my brother and sister didn't follow in our parents' footsteps in raising their children.

Oh yes! I think we all agreed not to make the same mistakes that our parents did with us. And my nieces and nephews turned out very well, thanks to the way they were raised.

I live with my second oldest sister and her husband. I stay with my oldest sister for two or three weeks of the month (she has a good bed at her house and my dog and I love that bed!). I don't see my second oldest brother very often, mostly at funerals, but we are all very close.

Not by a girl. I slapped a guy in the face once and he impulsively slapped back. It did hurt like a bitch and I have never done it since.

I did however get punched around by the same guy later. After going to work with a black eye I was really embarrassed. The last time he came at me I happened to be near a book shelf so I grabbed the first thing I could lay my hands on. It was a Brittanica encyclopia. I bashed him across the face with it and he had to explain to his co workers why he had a black eye. I am sure he lied like I did. He never touched me again and I left him soon after.

my mother slapped me in the face the other day in an argument over opinions such as I think I should be allowed to bareback bronc ride and mom doesn't agree of course so that lead to a yelling match then she slapped me I've had worse such as when I was 4 I broke my leg jumping off a tikes slide into a wading pool my brother who was 7 at the time said it was safe moral of story don't trust boy's that was quite a bit worse than a slap in the face

I would naver dream of hitting a woman, my best friend once slapped me not that I did anything to deserve it, she was very upset at the time and without thinking she lashed out at the first person she saw, she was shock when she realized what she had done, I'm a good friend and I just laught it off, owch
