Yep. I got ripped off by a mechanic one time who was working on my car. He stole the car and left town. He also stole a lot other people's cars he was working on. To my knowledge, he got away with all of it. Of course, they did put a warrant out for his arrest.

Was involved in a very sophisticated scam in Bangkok 8 yrs ago. Involved the Bangkok police, 2 foreign (supposed tourists) and a jewelry market. Luckily I didn't lose that much, because I ended up with jewelry that was at best purchased at US market values. I learned my lesson, and buy only from reliable stores in Saigon for a lot less money and much higher quality.

Yes, our house was hit while we were out of town for a weekend. They took electronics, guns, and old coins.
I also had my purse stolen while I was taking a turn staying with a family member who was in the hospital. It was really late and I had worked all day and I nodded off while in the ICU waiting room. I had shoved my purse behind my back but it was gone when I woke up. What a nightmare...ATM card, checkbook, my keys, all my id's and some jewerly.
