yes! on the ocean off of Pismo Beach in Central California. i got sea-sick (and the wife used a photo of me barfing into the ocean as our Christmas card that year - charming little wench that she is) but i absolutely loved it (not the barfing; the kayaking)!! it was really fun and cool!!
I could go for ever. In eastern Washington you can load up your supplies and find a private beach on one of the many lakes. There are cliffs all around so no one can walk or drive in.
