I don't know about creepy, but I suppose that's a good word for it. No, I haven't met anybody online. Not for actually face-to-face meeting. I mean I love my chats and arguments on the various SH categories, but not for personal meeting. I guess I'm just too old-fashioned to go for that.

Yes, and yes.

Done carefully, an online dating experience can be much safer and more productive. People can start out anonymous and describe expectations and their life situation more honestly than when you start with a face-to-face meeting. You can then arrange the first meeting in a public place, with clear expectations.

I don't think it's creepy. I just can't establish chemistry with someone I met online. The encounter is too forced, although a few of the guys were really nice people. I have tried it a few times when I was in a new place.

Not that it's too creepy for me, just that I have not done it. I met both people I have dated in person, and both turned into long-distance relationships, but that is different. One of my best friends met her girlfriend online, though, and they are working out quite well, so I fully support it!

When I got my first PC-around the year 2000, the internet dating scene was pretty good as I remember it. It was sorta' like the wild west, dangerous but full of opportunity and genuinely interesting. By five years later it had become like any good thing, regulated, appropriated, mishandled, watered down, cheapened, repackaged, over-marketed & sold out.
