The bears here are very shy and run from people.

I was hiking at Catawba Falls, NC. The trail I used has a deep and sharp drop to the left and a high, steep bank on the right. It would crowd two people to walk abreast, in some places.

Two friends and I, with our dogs, were on the trail. Some *serious* jackasses were hunting bear dangerously near the hiking trail...with a pack of bear dogs. The bear they were chasing ran out of the woods, across the creek and turned onto the hiking trail. So...here we were...two women and a man, four large, going-nutso dogs facing a huge bear barrelling down on us.

I don't know if it was the dogs going insane or the shouting and arm-waving we were doing but the bear decided to go up the at-least-10-foot bank on our right. Whew!

On our way back down the trail, we came across the hunters, the dogs and the dead bear. I gave them hail-down-the-country for hunting so close to a hiking trail that often has children on it but they seemed to have half a neuron between them so I doubt it did any good.

Once was enough, TYVM.

Only at a Welsh zoo. We no longer have wild bears in Albion except maybe a few up in Scotland.

Pretty close, I was throwing an outdoor weekend party event and a bear came strolling through the crowd, security cleared the way and the bear continued to where it was going..

Another time I hit a bear with my van...

Last summer, while up atop a local mountain at my favorite 'get away from it all' spot reading a book I heard a noise and when I looked up I found myself looking at a momma and her two little ones coming out of the bushes about 30 ft away. Thought I was screwed, but they just went on about their business and i went back to reading my book

Yeah, it was quite the experience. Ever since I make sure I take my camera with me whenever I go to this spot, I wish I had been able to get some pics of her

Just make sure the camera works quietly. No sense in making her nervous.

I worked in a Zoo, and the baby Bear loved me, LOL!!!

I chased one earlier as it was trying to eat my wife's birdfeeders.

However, they have ripped my trash apart a few times : )

yes-when i lived in the mountains-in the dumpster. black bears at the most only weigh about 160 lbs and are no threat-jingle keys if in the woods to let them know your there-theyll run away.

Try telling that to Lynn Orser. Well, you can't because she was mauled to death by a black bear. And by the way, that bear was well over 400lbs

No, the closest I've been to a bear is at a zoo...... and I seen one from my dad's house on his computer......from his camera eating out of a trough....... it was so cool....... ;)

I've seen them in nature and in my yard up close,but never face to face.They didn't see me.As cute as they are I don't wan't to come face to face with one.Chances are most wouldn't be too happy.

Actually yes, my cousin used to have one that he raised since it was a cub. Very freindly most of the time but I wouldnt want to meet one while camping!
