Dreams of flying are among the most common dreams, along with falling and losing teeth. They're certainly the most enjoyable of the three. For some people, flight is more than a dream. Pilots, adrenaline junkies, and inventors have all had occasion to defy gravity and take to the skies. But we wanted to ask the public about extreme flights of fancy -- superpowers and jetpacks, flying pigs and floating food. Be sure to take our 6-question Quick Poll to fill out the entire survey. Oh, and don't try any of this at home!

No, but my great Uncle broke his arm doing that.
My grandma, and her two brothers told him if he jumped off the garage roof, and flapped his arms really fast, he could fly. Well, it didn't work, and my great grandma was not happy lol.

Does 28+ broken bones from a motorcycle accident that left me air born count? I wasn't trying to fly but it was a YaMaHa so any time i started that bad boy i was flying. The accident was just another way to get further >35 ft. off the ground! =)

Just glad you're still with us. Here in FL where there are still no helmet laws for adult riders a long-time co-worker and sometime friend was bearing down on his Harley at 55 mph in marginal light (1 week after the Fall time change around 5 PM) when a woman driving a fullsized sedan turned left in front of him. *Ka-Pow!* was the way witnesses described the sound. Tied up traffic for hours. His passenger survived (just barely) and I have to guess went on living without him in her life.
On a technical note (and in ref. to the main topic) journalists often butcher the language and I can give you a list of personal favorites but one example is the use of the word "airborne" when describing any heavy object (car, bike, human, elephant, etc.) leaving the earth however momentarily.
Of course it is a figure of speech. Basic physics prohibits anything not generating sufficient lift of some kind to become airborne, defined as being supported by air alone.
One gray area though could be wingsuited skydivers who land without using a parachute. I've seen it done but wouldn't recommend just anyone trying it. The last one I understand wasn't so lucky. I'd rather belly-in flying a small military jet if the surface were smooth enough. But either way would be one hot landing.

When we were kids, My brother did though. He was trying to get a toy airplane off our roof for one of his friends and slipped. I saw him fly by. Fortunately there was a deck out there so he didn't fall all they way to the ground. I was supposed to watching him for mom and dad. Talk about a fail.

I wouldn't actually say flying, but I broke my left arm trying to do a back flip for the first time on the beach, when It broke I didn't feel any sudden pain, I laid down and thought I was relaxing in the sand when I fell and when I tried to get up I remember my arm feeling extremely tired as if I was swimming 200 miles to shore. I heard the sound of something snap like a stick, and thought it was just bone noise you hear from lazy body movement. who told me to try to get up?!, my arm felt like a corpse's arm in excruciating hard to explain kinda pain. the kind of pain that shocks your nerves and makes you go mad. I held my own arm with the other as it felt dead in my ok one. Ever step I took home was like a christmas pepper light blink of pain constantly. I told myself I would never ever do another backflip again. unless it's on a trampoline. broken bones suck!... it makes you feel useless and restricted. don't do it if you can't please!
    backflip
