That's the wonderful thing about McDees. They usually don't mind if you park there for an hour and nap.

I got up and drove to work and woke-up in the parking lot at work. Have no memory of get out of bed and driving there. Running on autopilot I guess.

Not really, when I find myself getting to that point I'll pull over and take a nap. A few years back I was coming home from a concert two hours from my house and pulled over only twenty minutes from home because I felt myself nodding off, I woke up a few hours later and made it home safely.
If you're nodding off get the hell off the road before you kill yourself and maybe even someone else.

Multiple times during medical training. Usually at lights. Never in an accident.

Came close once but had the good sense to pull over for a while. Took a little walk and was back on the road-awake.

No. I would probably not drive if I was that tired. I'm usually pretty good about staying awake when I need to.

Way too many times. I stopped driving on the freeway at night because of the monotony. My father died asleep at the wheel in 2008. So I don't want that to happen. If I died in my sleep like that it would not be so bad but I certainly don't want to take someone else's life.

More than once. One time it was at night on snow packed highway. I woke up to a tractor-trailer an arms reach from my car...without having to stretch! I hit the brakes, spun around twice, and stopped on the shoulder facing the way I had come from. Sat there for ten minutes letting my heart slow down.

I haven't, but on some long road trips alone, I've experienced that nodding feeling, and had to take drastic measures to try and get rid of it. Pinching, singing, all the windows down to let in freezing air.........

Yes...many times...and then I hit the back of a truck during late afternoon rush hour traffic. That is when I made the decision to have a sleep study and discovered I had sleep apnea. That's when I began using a CPAP machine and haven't fallen asleep behind the wheel since.

Couple times came close. Have you ever been so tired you were "wide awake unconscious?" Refers to the times when you know what you are doing but have no memory of it the next day!

Not in years, but in the first few years I drove, I pushed it a bit too hard. The stupidest thing I did was drive 120 miles to my Mom's house on Thanksgiving morning immediately following a graveyard shift.

Yes, driving cross country, been on the road about 16-17 hours and I nodded off for a split second. It was late late night, fortunately nobody on the road but me. But it "woke" me up, by golly. So I pulled off the roadway on a nice big shoulder, locked all the doors, put the seat back and closed my eyes and ended up snoozing for about 45 minutes. Woke up refreshed enough to drive the short distance I had left to my destination. Whew, that was close. And stupid! Should have stopped long before I did.

Only once coming home from college. Those road track bumps woke me up, I pulled over got a massive mug of coffe, cried a little, then sang out loud the rest of the way home. That's a rude awakening. NEVER travel tired!!!!!

I was always the one to stay awake to drive while the rest will be sleeping driving home 5am after a fun evening out. I don't drink and also had the opportunity to "test drive" many nice cars. Just to mention, I cannot sleep while someone else is driving, just in case they fall asleep and an extra pair of eye's one the road does no harm, especially in the dark.

Not quite...but close. I was working at a local casino....first night...and came home at 8:00 in the morning...("Graveyard" shift)...had the air conditioning up full blast (in the dead of an Iowa winter), one window cracked, and the radio up full blast to try and stay awake. Which I did...barely. :)

One time. I was driving back home from a Venice Beach party 50 miles on I-10 to my place in Pomona, California. I wasn't drunk, but I'd had a beer and it added to my drowsiness. About halfway home at 2 AM I nodded off. The rumble strip woke me up and I was inches from hitting the fence in the center divider between sides of the freeway. The chain link was literally inches from the driver's side window and thus my face. That terrified me into full wakefulness and put the fear of death in me to the point I have never let it happen again.

No, but very close to falling asleep. I've begun to nod off quite a few times, at which time I pull into starbucks, have some coffee (maybe do some jumping jacks real quick if no one is looking), wait for it to wake me up, and then keep on driving. I'd rather be a little late than miss something completely or hurt someone on the way.

I crashed into a telephone pole. It cracked and my car barely made it home, never to start again.

My dad gave me a ride to work the next morning. The pole was being replaced and my dad, the instigator, pulled over and asked the cop who was on scene what happened (he already knew >.<)

No, but I felt close a few times. I found that singing "100 barrels of beer on the wall" at the top of my lungs kept me awake until I could pull over. Having to remember the number countdown kept my mind focused.

I say no in the poll, but I've been at the nodding stage when your head drops for just a second and you jerk back up, eyes wide open not sure what just happened, scarey as hell. If you've pushed yourself to that point, you pull over anywhere, just get off the road. One thing nodding in your car or truck, do it on your bike and that's really flurting with disaster. Two wheels are almost always less forgiving for going off the road
