But ha joke's on them, many say I'm normal looking, even some say I'm good looking, now obviously I'm going by popular opinion here, the popular opinion seems to say I'm normal looking, therefore, I am normal looking.

Many times in middle school and high school even when I go out. I still feel that way. Being called names is not a good thing some people can not get over it and it affects everyday life even when they get older.

I was in second grade and sitting by my little sister on her first day riding the school bus. One older kid asked "how come your are so ugly and your sister is so cute?"

I am 33 now, would have never remembered without this post. Reminds me to be careful with my words.

Sure. I lived through it - many times - but my mama told me many times "Pretty is as Pretty does" It took many years and growing up to understand that saying.

Many times by my brother and sister in arguments growing up... And by someone on this site who disagreed with an opinion of mine.. But other than that, I usually get people saying the opposite. But you can imagine being told I was ugly by my siblings a lot of my life certainly had an affect on my self esteem. It's still hard for me to believe compliments today because I've had it instilled in my brain for a long time that I am ugly. You can't please everyone, just got to accept life as it is

And I kindly remind him or her that this is not a beauty contest, I am not a beauty queen, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I don't find HiNet or her attractive either. I'd much rather be intelligent and kind than a knockout any day of the week.

You can be a real life knock out. No one really wants 'picture perfect'.
So much of it is grooming and fitness plus the right attitude at the right place.

Get some cool outfits that shows you have a figure, shoes with a slight heel, and stroll down the avenue to the sidewalk cafe for a latte. (you might be surprised).

Posture and confidence plays a role as well. It's not life I've never been called "pretty" or "sexy". Beauty is not a priority in my life.

OK in that case, I was worried your self esteem was dragging.
Since you are so intelligent, think about this again. It really is not simple vanity. People react to you based on your appearence, and demeanor, in instinctive ways.
It's not simple 'beauty'. Its self confidence, pride, poise, self respect.
You have both positive and negative impacts on those around you, so this is not just about yourself either. Your a leader to some even if you do not realize it.

Enough said, I hope you have a very good life.

There's nothing wrong with my confidence, pride, self respect, or poise. I'm average looking and can go either way. I'm always appropriately dressed for work and uni. Thank you for thinking of me, though. I doubt others would have checked in on a perfect stranger. Thank you! And I hope you have a happy, fulfilling, and long life.

I'm sorry if I came across as sarcastic. I really do mean it when I say "thanks". Ten years ago I had very poor self esteem and knowing that there are people out there who are concerned for the welfare of a total stranger warms my heart. I'm nosey as well, though I pretend like I'm not.

I am really a William Blake type, Margaret Atwood can be too bleak for me,
but this poem came to mind. We all have our moments running in black smoke.

The Rest of Us (Margaret Atwood)

The rest of us watch from beyond the fence
as the woman moves with her jagged stride
into her pain as if into a slow race.
We see her body in motion
but hear no sounds, or we hear
sounds but no language; or we know
it is not a language we know
yet. We can see her clearly
but for her it is running in black smoke.
The cluster of cells in her swelling
    like porridge boiling, and bursting,
like grapes, we think. Or we think of
explosions in mud; but we know nothing.
    All around us the trees
and the grasses light up with forgiveness,
so green and at this time
    of the year healthy.
We would like to call something
out to her. Some form of cheering.
There is pain but no arrival at anything.

    Margaret Atwood

I'm being brutally honest with you Dark.
Pull your hair back to show your face, do something to fix up your eyebrows and get a little color on your cheeks...you are a fine looking woman.

And I'm not even hitting on you (well..lol), anyway I won't embarrass you by bringing this up again.
