After you go through that for a round or two.
Just go to your dad and say "Mom said yes".
When he says "Ok",then go tell your mom "Dad says yes" then she'll say "ok".

    Problem solved...

I think it happens to most people unless there's one control-freak parent. :)

How about the flip side? You want something, and Mom says No so you ask Dad?

Unfortunately that only works if the parents are separated or divorced. If they are not then they WILL talk, they WILL find out and they WILL punish you !! IT SUCKS !

Oh and there's an easy way to this little riddle:
    1. Troll your father by asking your mother again after she said "ask your father",
    2. If she says the same thing again, troll your mother by asking your father again.
    3. If he says the same thing, ask him one more time but call him mother.
    4. You may skip step 3 if you call your mother, father.
    5. Work Step 3 & Step 4 repeatedly until you get the answers you wanted.

Yes, when my mum said that [if I tried asking my dad first] I would just say 'Dad told me to ask you, so make up your mind'. Now I simply tell them what I have planned.
