Still have a land-line, but have 'downgraded' that to just caller ID and hooked up an answering machine. No call waiting or anything else. Phone systems (cell and land-line) rates are out of control ... actually, it's the 'add-on' charges the companies hit you with, but when you sign up can't seem to tell you exactly what they will be.

Gave up the land line about 6 years ago when cellular service for my home alarm system became available. No need for it, don't miss it, the cell phone serves all my requirements and is more portable. If I wanted a fixed station phone I could get it through the cable company, but there is no need for one.

After we went to the family plan for our cell phones, we spent $110/month for our land line (home phone) and we never used it. It took us about 3 months to realize it was no longer necessary. The only ones who have problems with people using only cell phones are bill collectors. They want to be able to leave 75 obnoxious messages on your answering machine and they absolutely hate the inability to reach people. God, I miss coming home to those messages. : D
I do pay my bills though.

Natural disasters---odds are your cell phone will not work, they need electricity to function. Land lines are hooked into a different power source.

I don't see that as a problem. During an ice or snow storm phone lines can go down, not so with cellular. If you talk so much you run your battery down and the power is out, plug it into the car and recharge, the car does not need to be running.
Also, a caution to land line users, if you use a cordless handset and the power goes out, you're phone is dead. Keep a cord phone on hand.
Also, land lines are susceptable to un-natural disasters, hasn't anyone else ever lost their phone service because some contractor dug up some phone line somewhere or someone drove over a switch box or pole?

Landlines are pointless now. Cellphones are easier to deal with and they can do way more than a landline. You can actually go farther than 20 feet without losing a connection and you can text and talk at the same time which you cant do with a landline...the list is long and the point is landlines are useless

I was for my kids but we just got my youngest a cell phone we are going to keep the home phone for a few more months. Just in case. I never use the home phone unless it rings. And it is usually a call for my daughter because her cell phone is dead....

This way I do not miss any calls if I'm out and if my kids get in trouble at school the school calls me right away. So I know to go up to the school when I get that call. The only reason that we have a land line now is that that my kids can call their friends.

People who call me at home know where I am when I pick up. I like it that when I answer my cell phone, the person on the other end usually does not know where i really am. I can also return calls any time it is convenient with a cell and tend to be able to return calls more quickly than if i had to wait till I get home.

NOPE. The only good use for a cell is when you are on the road, but because of the popularity of the cell phone. There are a lack of payphones. hmmmmmmmmm that is interesting.

I have a land line, but I mostly use it for my fax. I use my cell phone much more than the land line for talking.

I guess this is more "neither" or "undecided" :-)
