Ordinarily, I'm a purist when it comes to the National Anthem, but this one stirred my soul. In the wake of all the recent bashing of the National Anthem, this band, Madison Rising, decided to respond. The result is this.

The lead singer is a veteran, and that just makes this so much better.

What ever speaks the BEST about Old Glory to those who love her, is really fine with me... for it may reach those who are "different" from me.... and that is GOOD! :)

    MY NAME IS OLD GLORY.....

I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I stand side by side with the Maple Leaf on the worlds longest undefended border.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.
    Look up and see me.

I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
    I stand for freedom.
    I am confident.
    I am arrogant.
    I am proud.

When I am flown with my fellow banners,
my head is a little higher,
    my colors a little truer.

    I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world.
    I am honored - I am saluted.
    I am loved - I am revered.
I am respected -- and I am feared.

I have fought in every battle of every war for more then 200 years. I was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appomattox. I was there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France, in the Argonne Forest, Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy, Guam, Okinawa, Korea and KheSan, Saigon Vietnam.
    Know me,
    I was there.

I led my troops, I was dirty, battle worn and tired,
but my soldiers cheered me, And I was proud.
I have been burned, torn and tramp...

I have been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of countries I have helped set free. It does not hurt,
    for I am invincible.

I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of my country. And when it's by those whom I've served in battle -- it hurts.
But I shall overcome -- for I am strong.

I have slipped the bonds of Earth and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon.
I have borne silent witness to all
    of America's finest hours.

But my finest hours are yet to come.
When I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my wounded comrades on the battlefield,
When I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldiers,
Or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent at the grave of their fallen son or daughter,
    I am proud.

    MY NAME IS OLD GLORY

Dear God - Long may I wave.

Exactly. When the men were lost, the women and children held up the flag, in the morn.FSK was amazed the flag was still there.

As was the British fleet. The flag was 42 by 30 feet and announced to the world that the British attack had failed. It must have been a truly magic moment when the storm clouds broke and the sunrise blazed on the stars and stripes.

In my thinking this sentence does say what country it is..

"Whose broad stripes and bright stars" through the perilous fight...

i DON'T know any other country that has the stripes and stars that we do..

it's not me that is ignorant.. but you.. There is no other country that has the stripes and stars as in our flag.. not one.. I just went through all the flags of the world.. There are some that have stripes with one star or one stripe and random stars but there is no flag even similar to ours.. nor is there one with the same colors and design.. therefore I was correct with my original statement.. STARS and stripes, red white and blue.. is only the USA.

Just how dumb are you... the REASON THE FLAG OF NAVASSA ISLAND, PUERTO RICO AND WAKE ISLAND LOOK LIKE THE AMERICAN FLAG??? BECAUSE IT IS THE AMERICAN FLAG.. DUH? THOSE ARE AMERICAN TERRITORIES..

AS FOR SOME OF THE OTHERS... I will post them here and see if others think there is any way they could be confused with the American Flag.. here are the flags of chile, liberia, and malaysia
    chile
    liberia
    malaysia

So, as I said previously.. I see A SINGLE STAR.. A SINGLE STRIPE.. i SEE A MOON AND SUN.. I see nothing.. that even remotely looks like the American flag.. I think my point is made and you are wrong...and I still cannot believe you used American territories to point out similar flags.. amazing. comparing the American flag with the American flag..

Bombs nothing. This anthem gets downright graphic.

Let's go children of the fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
    Against us tyranny's
    Bloody flag is raised! (repeat)
In the countryside, do you hear
The roaring of these fierce soldiers?
They come right to our arms
To slit the throats of our sons, our friends!

    Refrain

    Grab your weapons, citizens!
    Form your batallions!
Let us march! Let us march!
    May impure blood
    Water our fields!

Yes, it's none other than La Marseillaise from our friends, the French.

The big ones are fired from a mortar tube and have a proximity fuse to explode at a certain height, same concept as the mortar shells launched against Ft. McHenry. Fireworks are simply bombs without a steel case to create shrapnel.

No one said they were, that I can see. If you read what was posted, it said "bombs bursting in air." That is in fact what fireworks are. As I recall that was your original beef with our National Anthem. Beer was also said to be invented by the Chinese, and it is as big a part of American culture as anything else.

Is there a problem with the word bomb in our National Anthem?

You need to move to a country that you can be proud to claim and a national anthem that you would love to sing and listen to.
May I suggest the Sudan, hear it is nice this time of year. If you don't much care for government, may I suggest Somalia; it is also nice this time of year.

Those we English bombs that the flag survived. Context counts.

Perhaps, you would prefer the "unbreakable" (нерушимый ) CCCP:

You are obviously a trouble make who does not know the background of the poem that became our national anthem.

The cannon and bombs and rockets were those of the force that attacked us.

I suppose you would have turned tail and run thus not enjoying the freedom and liberty that allows you to trash the Star Spangled Banner. It would be best for you to move to a different county, preferably one of cowards.

“Defence of Fort McHenry” – Words of the National Anthem
September 14, 1814, 9 A.M. – “At this time our morning gun was fired, the flag hoisted, Yankee Doodle played, and we all appeared in full view of a formidable and mortified enemy, who calculated upon our surrender in 20 minutes after the commencement of the action.” Joseph Hopper Nicholson, U.S. Volunteers at Fort McHenry to a friend, September 17, 1814.

It was at this moment, that a 38 year old Georgetown lawyer, Francis Scott Key, witnessed from an American flag-of-truce vessel, the President, admist the British fleet, the great garrison flag (42′x 30′) over Fort McHenry. The following is from a handbill that was distributed to every soldier at Fort McHenry soon after the bombardment.

    DEFENCE OF FORT McHENRY

The annexed song was composed under the following circumstances – A gentleman had left Baltimore, in a flag of truce for the purpose of getting released from the British fleet, a friend [Dr. William Beanes] who had been captured at [Upper] Marlborough. He went as far as the mouth of the Patuxent, and was not permitted to return lest the intended attack on Baltimore should be disclosed. He was therefore brought up the Bay to the mouth of the Patapsco, where the flag vessel was kept under the guns of a frigate [HMS Surprise], and he was compelled to witness the bombardment of Fort M’Henry, which the Admiral had boasted that he would carry in a few hours, and that the city must fall. He watched the flag at the Fort through the whole day with an anxiety that can be better felt than described, until the night prevented him from seeing it. In the night he watched the Bomb Shells, and at early dawn his eye was again greeted by the proudly waving flag of his country.

    Tune -ANACREON IN HEAVEN.

Fighting to defend one's liberty as they did in 1812 isn't for the faint hearted which is apparently what you are. Maybe you'd like a country whose national anthem isn't quite so upsetting to you. Maybe Peru. How about Bulgaria?
